Ford Ranger 2020 review: Wildtrak

The Ford Ranger Wildtrak has achieved icon status. It’s the ute people refer to as the one they want when you ask them… well, that or the Raptor. That station used to be the realm of the SR5 HiLux.

But it’s more than just a kooky variant name - it’s the fact the Wildtrak is based on a benchmark ute in the segment, the Ford Ranger - but with some flashy elements inside and out that separate it from the rest of the range.

Dual-cab utes like this one have become a solution to everyone’s problems. These vehicles are so versatile, so useful, and so popular that they’re becoming a default for people out there who just want a ute that can do anything for them.

So does the Wildtrak offer everything a ute buyer would want? And what’s it like when it comes to actual ute duties? We put some weight in the back to find out.

The Ford Ranger Wildtrak is a terrific ute, one that offers the practicality and technology that plenty of buyers are after, with the sporty design elements that plenty also desire.

If you can do without some of those ‘look at me’ extras, you could feasibly choose the XLT model and save yourself about five grand. Either way, you’d be getting into one of the most polished and impressive dual-cab pick-ups on the market today.

Thanks again to our friends at Agriwest CRT Rural Bomaderry for helping us out with the load.

I’ve had my MY19 Ranger Wildtrak BiTurbo since January and other than a slight hesitation from the gears when starting off especially at traffic lights I cannot fault it in any way. I have to agree that it’s more like a SUV than a Ute and I think a better ride than the Prado I traded in.
The engine and cabin are incredibly quiet, the steering and handling are wonderful and the economy of between 8 and 9 litres per hundred very easy to live with. I believe it’s one of the best utes around and definitely the best one I have owned .
It is much more pleasing to own than that other one that is still number 1. I have also found that my Ford dealer and the service department have been great in their customer service. I have no hesitation in recommending this Ute.

I tow 3T regularity with my 2019 XLT 2.0BiTurbo. Previously I had the 3.2. The 2.0BiTurbo has it in leaps and bounds over the 3.2l, and I was previously a “no replacement for displacement” kinda guy. Drive a 2.0 BiTurbo, you won’t be disappointed.

Currently have both a 3.2L and a 2L Ranger and the 2L is the better option easily. We tow a 3.5ton boat regularly as well and the 2L is good for it.

I have 2017 wildtrak and love it towing is effortless fortunately I’ve got a year before I trade up to watch reviews on the 2l bi turbo model though I do think I’ll get another 3.2 early days yet, Ford do have a good choice of lumps they can fit, I just wish they would finally drop a v6 diesel in and give us what we really want

Good review. Owned the previous 3.2 model and in summer the back seat area gets hot!Would make life a little easier for kids if the back seat area had rear air vents!

Just bought one after being set on Hilux’s my whole life. Every aspect seemed to be better than the hilux equivalent . Only factor I’m concerned about is engine life/reliability. Time will tell but I couldn’t be happier with it so far!

One of the best if not the best vehicle I have ever driven! Or owned Don’t think twice about it, they are amazing!! But make sure you get the bi turbo with the most bhp, the rest is just there for you enjoy

Got Wildtrak 3.2 T6, issues include sudden clonky downshift when accelerating fr cruising slowly and some freeplay in steering. Cheers

It's quieter, yeah, 2.0l biturbo Wildtrak and XLT gets active noise cancellation with 3 microphones, one above the driver, one above the passenger and the 3rd one above the rear middle seat which is not mentioned in the video.

I'm thinking the Ranger is going to be my next vehicle. My first car was 96 ranger xlt, and I miss that little truck. I need another
