Ford Ranger Raptor Vs. Wildtrak | DoneDeal Comparison Review | Off Road Pick-Up Truck

This week on the DoneDeal YouTube channel we have been set a challenge by Spirit FordStore in Sandyford. They wanted both David OC and Bob Flavin to spend a day in the Dublin/Wicklow Mountains testing both the Ford Ranger Wildtrak and Ranger Raptor.

Both pick-ups are very similar mechanically, they share the same 2.0 diesel bi-turbo 213bhp engine and to the blind eye aren't extremly different visually.

The big differences are all to do with the suspension. The Raptor offers a smoother ride with more ground clearance making it a better choice for an off roading enthusiast, whilst the Wildtrak is better suited to someone who would be putting the SUV to work. It has a larger towing capacity as well as payload.

The two options are great for a buyer who is interested in having a good work vehicle that can also do the school run.

Overall it was a tough decision, and neither Bob nor Dave could agree on which one they would choose, so it begs the question, which would you buy?

Thanks for watching.

In Australia they have just release the FX4 Max, which is pretty much a cross between the Raptor and Wildtrack... still has the fox shocks, but $12k less than a Raptor

It's not just a case of the suspention being different the chassis is totally different the raptor has shocks all round and the Wildtrak has shocks front and leaf springs on the rear.. hence the different chassis.

Before you comment that the 2 litre is not as capable as the 3.2 in towing you should have tested them. Can assure you the 2 litre does a far better job than the 3.2 litre engine.

The 3.2 is still available in South Africa just not in Raptor ... We drive the 3.2 and its thirsty to an extent although we get much better fuel consumption compared to others ive heard from ... The 3.2 XLT 4x4 is averaging 9.1L/100km ... Really solid engine though

One thing the Raptor Ranger needs is either the 2.3L ecoboost or the 2.7L ecoboost.

Cheers. I'm in Thailand and there are millions of Fords because they are made here. There are some outstanding Wildtraks and raptors for sale second hand at great prices. It sounds like the Wildtrak + some aftermarket suspension (raised a bit as well) and bigger wheels would be more practical, look cooler, and be better value than the raptor

As far as im aware in the UK due to the lower carrying weight of the Raptor you can't claim the VAT back, Where's for the Wildtrak if solely for commercial business use then you can.

The raptor isn't a commercial vehicle because of the lower payload and towing hence in UK can't reclaim the vat back. The raptors a toy the wildtrack a workhorse.

Not Tax deductible in the uk because of the payload. So missing out on a lot trade I have a Storm Track due next month.

2 litre motor works on higher revs, some engines breaks around 50, 000kms, would have been better, if 3.2 had 10 speed automated to it

both built for different purposes
just wish the next gen Ranger raptor could get a bigger engine

I don't get why there isn't any video on YouTube where the ranger raptor go against the wildtrak in a head to head drag race

One of the biggest misunderstanding about these vehicles if you buy one through the business is you cannot bring the kids to school like the presenter suggests if you tax it as a commercial vehicle. Buy it through the business it has to used solely for the business. The BIK is different also. No driving on Sundays with the family etc. It's a minefield. I know loads do it but if you meet a sticky Gaurd you're in for a hefty bill.
