I love making my own homemade pesto. I love the Serrano idea but I also add lemon juice and season with salt, black pepper and red pepper flakes

I just harvested a huge pile of my basil the other day and made pesto. What I do differently(that I think puts it over the top) is I roast the pine nuts & garlic first, and I also throw in some salt & pepper & squeeze in some fresh lemon juice. Pesto freezes very well, so I bag it into 1/2 cup portions and I never have to make pesto on the fly.
