Hi Dr Khan, can we engage AO on a part time basis, as you mentioned on the video minute 13:00? Just a day or two per month.

If I'm not mistaken, the video may have been misleading on one point. You mentioned that an Authorising Officer or Level 1 user must be a paid employee on the payroll, and also be a paid director or office holder. This seems to have caused some confusion. So, who exactly is an "office holder"? An office holder is someone appointed to a position by a company or organisation but does not have a contract or receive regular payment. This includes roles like company directors or secretaries.

According to Home Office guidance, specifically point L4.3, each of your Key Personnel must either:

be a paid member of your staff, or
be engaged as an ‘office holder.’

Therefore, if you appoint an employee as an Authorising Officer or Level 1 user, they must be paid. However, if you appoint someone as an "office holder" (such as a director), as indicated by the "OR" in the guidance, they do not need to be on the payroll, as office holders are neither employees nor workers.

Hey, at 17.10minutes you said that being the director of the company and having an employee as an AO, you can't self sponsor? It is confusing because a solicitor said that I can self sponsor myself as a director.

Also do you meant to say, that I being the director, I need to take up another role as a Business manager for example in order to self sponsor the skilled visa?
