Do you have a favorite fast-food restaurant that unfortunately only has locations in one region? We all know that America is the land of the free, the brave and the hallmark for democracy. America is also the home of fast food. The fast food market has seen a lot of change over the decades but it’s still as popular as it’s ever been.

While the big brands and franchises have cornered every part of the globe, there are some fast food restaurants that have stayed local. These little gems can only be found in certain regions of the country; and although they are firm favourites with the locals, they have never ventured outside of their respective areas, which to many of us is a real tragedy.

One of the highlights of any American road trip is hitting up fast-food restaurants along the way. These fast food establishments are built around their local communities, founded by people who are passionate about their food, and staffed by locals who make it all happen. Regional fast food restaurants make traveling in the U.S. totally delicious. Chances are, those local flavors can only be found in certain parts of the United States. Here are a few of the most uniquely regional fast food restaurants we wish we could dig everywhere in the USA.

- Founded in the early 1950’s , with it’s trademark Burgers and Tacos, (which it still serves today) Jack In The Box quickly became an American institution.
- We can’t forget about the simple, yet classic Hotdog and they don’t come much better, or more classic, than Ted’s Hot Dogs

- If there is one thing that every fast food list needs, it’s a great Southern Fried Chicken place. What could be better, or more Southern, than Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers?
- Opening it’s doors in the mid 1950’s, Waffle House has prided itself on its warm, friendly and of course delicious Waffles.
- Although only founded in the late 1980’s, Burger Time has kept to the simple practices of days gone by.
- Opening in the 1960’s, ‘Casa’ Del Taco made a huge impact in its first decade. Fusing Mexican and American cuisine, ‘Casa’ Del Taco flew into profit, which quickly lead to other restaurants opening up, as well as dropping the ‘Casa’ from the name.
- Harold and Kumar had it right. The number 1 entry on our list of fast food restaurants we’d wish were everywhere is the glorious White Castle.

I feel blessed to have White Castle in my neck of the woods but I recently read that Big Boy had shut down half of their restaurants. They are all over up here. Plus, I love the Cincinnati style chili with locations that, I believe, only go 100 miles in every direction.

Worked at White Castle about, 10 year's ago... at least 5 time's a day, a customer would say "They don't have these, where I'm from! Back home, we have Crystals... ever hear of them..."

As a Louisianan and Mississippian, I _loved_ Raising Cane's! Heck, they even sponsored my PBS Station in Church Point, Louisiana. In December 2021, they designed their cups with a "Charlie Brown Christmas" theme.

I’ll never forget when we went on a road trip and stopped by White Castle. Sooo good. All we have in Texas is Whataburger ;(

You should add "Maid Rite" to this list. An Iowa favorite chain with "loose meat" sandwiches. I always remember enjoying these steamed bun sandwiches as a kid in Iowa. Great tasting fast food.

Last time I was in Florida I noticed a burger chain called Checkers I have never seen in the Western or North Eastern US. Also, the absolute best greasy taco and pan fried burrito you can get is from Jimboy's Tacos which is local to Northern California.

White castle started in my city and now there not Evan in my state.
