Pool Lesson: How To Massé The Cue Ball

You've heard me talk about in the Cue It Up Podcast, and now here it is!
!!! The Masse Shot !!!

There are 3 components that make up a masse shot:
1. Cue Elevation
2. Side Spin Amount
3. Power

These three components all have individual effects on a masse shot. In this video, I break down those effects. Then I show you how to combine those components with an aiming system that dates back to the 1800s known as the Coriolis Effect, named after the French mathematician, mechanical engineer and scientist Gaspard-Gustave de Coriolis. When you combine the Coriolis Effect and the three components successfully, you'll have a pretty good idea of how the cue ball will curve around interfering balls.

Enjoy and don't forget to subscribe!!!

As always, nice job keeping it simple and real. You need to really aim to swerve to make these shots. :)

I was pushing this topic a long time towards the bottom of my todo list, because it is so much to explain and to structure. You really did a great job here - and now I don't need to do it anymore :)

I like your show, l love the game of pool I have my own table 8'. I am now 79 years old, I got into the apa in 2021. I started pool at age 16 got married away from pool
For about 40 years. I am skill level 4 in 8 ball and 9 ball. I have forgot most of what I knew at one time, but I'm working on it. Thanks for listening.

Many new players find reason not to swerve the cue ball. With videos such as this, there is no longer any reason not to…great tutorial Lil’ Chris! 👍🏻

Grateful for the time put into the description of such complicated, yet strongly useful shot! The physics vividly depicted step by step clarify how a player can become more comfortable & confident when utilizing this shot.

Very excellent explanation. I taught myself how to perform this shot, though only to about a 50-60% success rate. With this lesson, I'm all too eager and confident to get to the pool hall to practice and get that consistency up. It's such a fun shot and so few even attempt to learn it.

Best vid I’ve ever seen on masse shots. Chris comes thru again. Not sure how I missed this before.

I think I watched this one time before but I do not remember so I will say you did a great job !
There is one additional thing I do anytime I’m going to elevate my cue.
I start with my tip on the tablecloth and adjust my grip to the follow-through position.
This ensures two things.
One is that I have enough room to follow through.
And two I have a less chance of damaging the cloth.

The Main Thing I Like About Your Video Tutorials Are They Are How To Not A I Did!!!! You Go Into Detail!!!!

Well Chris I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video, I don't often attempt masse shots at all even in practice. Though after watching this video I find that the way you broke down the masse shot is a little of an easier concept for me to grasp and it will definitely appear in my practice sessions. Thank you again for producing such an amazing video.

Chris, that was awesome. Pool isn't as much feel as so many think. You science it up, then break it down!
And you always empathize the most important component IMO. Practice, practice, practice.
Ive dabbled with the masse applying what i learned in the jump shot video. I jump/masse intentionally. It's getting me legal hits. And im tuning in to making the shots more and more.

It's is much harder to defense me and my TAP Crew as we are all practicing what I've learned from your lessons!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Greetings from Pensacola Chris-🐬Thanks for the best info that I’ve found so far and love the 2 diff views of each shot to show how the shot is being made and the results. Also- right at the end I was getting ready to ask about what kind of tip shoots Masse best and you answered that as well! 👍🏻 Great video Chris - going to be working on this today. Once again thank you so much!
Oh and I just noticed in the description below you have it all broke down to make it easy to study and follow. Perfect 👌 anyone can learn using this lesson you have given with practice.

Great video Chris! I would also like to add to your tutorial... When visualizing the contact point on the table out from the center of the cueball contact point parallel to the intended path line of the shot, because of the fact that the masse will wear off just* before completing the turn, you should tilt your contact point on the table through the cue ball slightly inward from the initial assessment to compensate for this. This should improve the accuracy of the shot.
