There was just something about those early Sierra and Lucasarts adventure games. It was like having a new world at your fingertips. Looking at the box and screenshots was like holding your favorite book.

I played the arcade version with the 3 steering wheels at EightyTwo in Downtown Los Angeles. It's so much fun. I used to play this game a lot on MS-DOS as a kid and was delighted to find it in the barcade.

Stunts, Monkey Island and Prince of Persia! Three completely different masterpieces that still bear fruit today. Stunts, its track editor and overall action-based racing (as contrast to a serious simulaiton like F1GP or Indy 500) surely served as inspiration for the TrackMania games. Monkey Island, alongside its various peers, helped outline the core pillars of point and click games (I'm thinking of a dev team called Wadjet Eye, and also the David Cage more cinematic stuff). And Prince of Persia would eventually be transformed into stuff like Tomb Raider, Assassin's Creed and Uncharted. It's awesome to see how today's games have deep roots! Thanks for the upload!

I remember having a (obviously pirated) version of Kings Quest 5 WITH Vga graphics, but without all the cd voices.

That picture of Guybrush and the governor is such a magical throwback. Wonderful memories

Kings Quest V was the first VGA 256 colour game I played. Mind was blown. A few months later I got a soundcard :) Wing Commander nearly made me fail high school exams :) I remember it was quite tricky getting the expanded/extended memory setting right in MSDOS for Wing Commander, otherwise you wouldn't see all the graphics.

i miss this era of Pc gaming. PCs were far more exotic and there was a learning curve to using them. if you wanted to play dos games, you needed to be able to mess around with config files depending on memory requirements of games, know the IRQs of your soundcard and alls sorts of other things you don't have to worry about nowadays.

Prince of Persia, Railroad Tycoon, Wing Commander, Monkey Island. Can´t go wrong with 1990.
Never played Golden Axe on the PC.

I grew up with MS-DOS, and somehow for quite some time I was more aware of Epic Mega Games' knock off of Puzznic: Brix, than Puzznic itself. Probably because Epic Mega Games was part of my childhood back in the MS-DOS era, but not really going beyond that, especially these days.

The game I played the most of DOS and yet never reached stage 2 was Prince of Persia, I played that so much as a kid, died countless times, but it was so much fun! OutRun was also another game I loved on DOS.

Now, I didn't know Golden Axe was on DOS though it doesn't look like it has the backstory just as the Genesis version whereas the TurboGrafx16 version does and it's pretty cool.

By the way, have you played Gravel? I'm thinking about buying it to play on PS4 since it's on discount and looks a lot of fun, plus it's an arcade racer than a simulator so that's certainly a plus for me.

Great video and take care. Hope you're doing better.

I played all oh these on Amiga. With monkey island I waited for my first PC. I remember the first games were xwing and day of the tentacle which made me jaleous of pc owners. Still I had to wait 3 years when I started to work and could afford my own one. 486dx2 maybe at 80mhz. Cyrix processor, green ceramic. Loved it!

Huh, I didn't even know there was an EGA King's Quest 5 as early as 1990. As far as I was aware back then, the later VGA KQ5 was the only one, and I specifically remember not having the hardware to actually play it at the time.

This year was fantastic for MS-DOS games, in this list I have two of the games that I most played in my Schneider 386, the 4DS and Super OffROad, que na altura era mais conhecido pelo pessaol na escola como Ironman.
