2200VA UPS APC to Solar Inverter

Today I bought an old 2200C APC UPS. It costs $ 100. I will convert it into a solar inverter. In this video, I will clean it, Add a battery connection, reduce the no-load current and test its capacity. In the next video, I will add a large capacity MPPT charger, Automatic switches and protective devices.

All my projects are free, I design them on EAGLE 6.0. I uploaded it to Google drive. You need to use a web browser to download the file and open the file with winrar software (extract) on the PC. Open schematic file (.SCH) and PCB file (.BRD) with EAGLE software.

Thank You for that excellent video!!! I did a Cyber Power 1900 a few months ago, not nearly as neat as your example here. That was great how you figured out how to reduce the idling current of your inverter! And wound your own inductor!! My UPS draws 55 watts at idle, and I always felt that was a bit high. I may try to duplicate your idle current fix on it. I run my ups output into a 6 circuit generator transfer switch. It is great to have when the power goes out .All I see is the 20 Milli second light flicker when power goes out. Its easy to miss that! It takes care of power outage with no intervention on my part. I did not know I have a brother somewhere. Thanks for posting your video!!!!

Cool bro! Wish I understood how that inductor works to lessen the load... It has no losses while load applies, or affects waveform in some way? I'm not sure why some people are hating this video because you didn't build it yourself. At least you bought it used, and refurbished it. If they are so smart they should make their own videos. You're the one with all the views and subs. Good job !

I have had an APC SUA2200 running for 6+ month on a 80 kWh diy powerwall with no shutdown. Works fine. I have idle losses lige yours. The filter interests me, but I have gotten hold of a toroidal 3000VA transformer from another brand of 3000 VA/48 volt UPS that has blown electronics. I also got hands on a APC SUA3000 and I think I will swap trasformers.

It seems than 90+% of the losses at idle is from the transformers which get pretty hot. The MosFets never get really hot.

Good work to reuse old ups. One question in mind. How did you stopped ups charging mechanism? Or you just have kept disconnected grid input for ever?

What happens if there is a short across those 2 completely exposed terminals that you put on the back of the UPS? I am thinking that those skinny wires on the batteries will light up.

Hi, awesome video here. I just got this exact APC 2200 UPS. I don't have Solar panels/charger. Can the UPS handle charging those external batteries from mains/grid supply?

Question number 1 where you connected solar panels? 2nd main grid should be taken out from APC 3rd how you are going to charge batteries? We need mpt solar charge controller 24V ?

Hi Awesome tech!, Today I found two SUA5000RMT5U apc 4000watt ups backups. I wonder if I could use these in a solar system and connect one on each leg of a 240 volt household breaker box somehow... will watch your videos with interest!

Hi, can you please provide more specs on the inductance you winded? how many winds you did? Maybe you could tell which specs are needed so I could buy one already assembled?

A year or so ago I tried several different chokes it helped very little to none

I concluded that the losses was in the Square Transformers
I plan on building a toroid for it but I didnt know or check the voltage of the other wires if I remember correctly it has 4 or five instead of two

Do they need the other wires

Is it possible to supply Solar panels DC volts instead of using batteries.
If yes how many solar panels will be enouh to supply 2200VA
