SONY PICTURE PROFILES: What do all the settings do?

You ever try and use the picture profiles on your Sony camera only to find yourself wondering what the heck all that stuff in the picture profile menu does?

Well in this video, we'll change every single one of those things on the Sony a7c and see the results in real time. Some are super visible, some not so much (but that's probably because I have no idea what I'm doing...). Using the a7c for this test, but the same settings (or close to it) are applicable on other modern Sony cameras like the a7 III, a7r III, a7r IV, a7s III and a1, and probably the forthcoming a7 IV too.

I hope this helps you understand each picture profile setting, and I hope it helps my videos suck a little less in the future as well!

AMAZING...WHY ON EARTH HAS THIS NEVER BEEN DONE?!?!? Noticed most YouTube stay away from this subject, apart from say the likes of Gerald undone, it was through his videos, I knew that if ur profile is set to gamma and not still it can affect your photos this is when I started to take more interest in what is going on with these picture profiles...others just talk about the profiles, but never ever attempt to go into the settings and explain what is going on and its not just how you explained things but the way you actually iillustrated the settings also is honestly amazing..I actually used to think adding plus on the black level would make the blacks darker lol..this was an Education.

I think in black gamma range narrow to wide reduce slight red tone. more going through yellow tone.

GREAT FREAKIN VIDEO MAN!!!! So let me help my fellow youtube crew out... We all want that sharpness in our shots including video. So When you use DETAIL, it invites that artifactual noise in the videos. When you use CRISPING, it cleans the edges of the sharp detail thus compressing the edges to reduce the noise out BUT preserving the detail(as much as possible). So if you want that nice youtube sharpness where you get that detail like his video. Use the two and yes, it's ok to go UP this time BUT don't go plus 7. I like leaving mine right at zero with a 5-6 crisping. After trying for a year to get that sharp detail(Im new to video), I figured it out as NOBODY on youtube explains exactly how. He broke down the details though big creds to this bro! So think of the crisping as your compression ratio for the sharpness detail(let's call it 1:2:0 ratio) so for every 1 point in detail you go up, use crisping at +1 to +2 points up. Even if you use more crisping, it will soften the video(similar to how using clarity to soften photos... but for video in this case). Your glass will play a big role!

BTW, I just bought a Canon XC10, and I was delighted: few picture profiles, all effectives!
I think SONY just made things TOO MUCH COMPLICATED, and really, I work sometimes for some cinema professionals, they are MUCH MORE focused on the acting, than on these tiny details!
