Ports aren't "controlled" unless they can be held with military strength.

Not going to happen. China is no long the low cost producer. They have or are in the process of losing most of their export market. They don't have a Navy with the ability to protect their own trading choke points. Let alone patrol the Worlds Trading Routes. Their economy is collapsing, soon, very soon, they will be falling off the economic clift. They are now falling behind in AI Technology. They are about to revisit the early economic history of the 1970's. All because they made their move, too soon. All they had to do, was bide their time for another 15 to 20 years. Maintain the deception of cooperation; but they just had to jump the gun. But at least they can said, they did it their way, Economics "With Chinese Characteristics."

It would seem that China is doing exactly what we were doing in the 60s

My dad had a factory in China and we were losing $1.5M (yes, dollar) in 2022, so we closed it and move to Vietnam. Now we have two factories at the suburb of Ho Chi Minh city and we’re making $3M a year producing lightbulbs easy.

They can't even manage their own country, you think they can manage the world?

Most belt and road countries are defaulting on their debts, but it's killing the yuan not really gaining them any power. 1 destroyer in the straight of Malaca and China has no food or energy. It's not positioned to hold anyone to ransome over anything

As a Sri Lankan, many of us agree it was utterly shameful to see our leaders sell out to the Chinese. It was all caused by our Government corruption and leaders having a strong friendships with Chinese officials that blinded them into taking such deals. We all hope that other countries see the consequences of our actions as a cautionary tale when dealing with other countries.

What's you definition of control? When the European controlled the ports in SA, India, HK, etc... they had their own police and armed services there. The local police couldn't do jack all about it. I see on your map that you have China controlling 2 ports in Australia and I know that they don't have carte blanche at those ports. They still have Australia over sight, ie they won't be able smuggle drugs or weapons into the country or anything like that. Don't get me wrong, as an Australian I'm pissed off that my government is allowing this and that China will cause harm, but I think the harm they can do is limited.

Correction: at 21:00, Pakistan never gained independence from anybody. It was cleaved from an independent India by the British.

Amazing that the Chinese were willing to invest further in the failing Sri Lankan port. How terrible of the heartless Chinese. How could they be so cruel.

Good luck defending those ports their Navy is weak more than half of those ports can be taken by force easily

In freedom of navigation nobody controls the Sea outside of nation's territory.

As long that port is not on chinese land… china does not actually control the port. The local govt usually is in ultimate control if they feel like it..
