I spent 17 years without giving much thought about Mapex. They're like the Ibanez of drums : not nearly as "iconic" as other, bigger names, but been working on pure innovation in the shadows for decades. I've played Ludwig USA custom, DW, Noble & Cooley, Yamaha (from stage to recording customs), name it, I played it. As a sound engineer I listened to so many kits... the one thing that strikes me the most about the Saturns (older or newer ones) is the absolute perfect balance between punch and decay on the toms and bass-drum. Have ever seen a drummer playing mapex using any kind of dampening of the toms?! I haven't. They are just perfectly sitting in the mix, naturally. While other brands chase fame and crazy stuff, Mapex just refines their drums over and over again, sticking to what they know to be the best. I still remember the first time I heard a Saturn live...!

Mapex Saturn series are hands down the best sounding drums for the price on the market today. My 15 year old Mapex Saturn can hold its own with anything else out there. They tune easy, sing for days, and the shells don't weight a ton. And they're well built to boot.

Personally, I like the sound of this kit - and Mapex in general - at the same time, Benek can make any kit sound great.

If I were out to buy the best level of drum kit out of market filled with incredible kits, I would buy a Mapex Saturn. Because the price is so insanely low with lout sacrificing any durability at all
Plus they may actually have the most real features of any kits out there and incredible quality hardware.

Love the kit and the finish...not sure why they went with the cheapo snare though...
