Standard Finnish vs. Spoken Finnish #shorts

Which one are you learning? Standard Finnish or spoken Finnish? Or both?

Spoken Finnish is shorter and you’ll hear it more in everyday conversations in Finland. 🗣

For example, let’s take the sentence ”I don’t know”. 🤗

"Mi-nä en tie-dä" is what you would learn in standard, textbook Finnish. 📕

🙌 In spoken Finnish, it can be shortened to "en tiiä".

You can use standard finnish to sound more serious or emotional. Casually you would say spoken "en tiiä", but if you want more stress to it, you can say "en minä tiedä". This works better f.e. when being angry.

You could also shrug and say something like "aeene". That is universal.
