php in recent years (mostly because fb were pushing alternatives - hacklang, hhvm) have grown a lot. like really a lot.
i completely agree about iteration process, it was one reason what holded me to fully enjoy and learn new languages as fast as it could have happended (in my opinion). Of course you get run time speed, which in many cases is more importat.

elixir compilation speed is really great compared to other languages that i have tried, what bugs me the most is, that i have learned php years ago and have become efficient debuger with die() and print_r(). refresh page and you see what state, or what ever is heppening. i still trying to grasp elixir way to debuging.

for me elixir in some sense feels like supervised scripting language, where each genserver is script and if failed, you can handle it accordingly and supervisor is script, and its supervisor is script and so on...
