At her Monday press conference, Nicola Sturgeon was asked about SNP Dundee council putting out a stark warning rises in council tax and cuts to balance their budget.

The SNP were elected to Holyrood on the back of their promise to abolish council tax for all Scots in 2007. Their manifesto that year had stated: “We will scrap the unfair Council Tax and introduce a Local Income Tax set at 3p. This will apply at both the basic and higher income tax rate and will not be levied on savings income.”
But they soon dropped this plan after it was found to be impossible to implement. Instead the SNP introduced a council tax freeze, a short-gap which last nine years and reportedly cost local authorities millions in expected income. No wonder council tax in Scotland will rise sharply but Sturgeon will again shift blame onto inflation.

The SNP told me that the GRR had to go through because it was in their manifesto. So was reducing class sizes, increasing police numbers, reducing crime, level up the education/attainment gap, etc. etc. They have failed in almost all their promises due to their indyref obsession and of recent their ill-thought-out GRR bill.
