It’s so cool learning about mythical beings of various cultures, especially when they bear some similarities to one another. A cool sort of convergent mythology.

We pronounce it as Shokoy here in the Philippines ...

... And yes, they are scary in deep, rural areas.

Not sure if this creature has ever had much spotlight, but an Umibozu would be a neat episode.

That's an interesting mythology I have never heard of.
Do the females strictly go after male victims?

0:00 So this is Siyokoy a dangerous creature underwater.
0:24 She holding his hand to follow her at underwater.
0:59 He control him mad and into deep water.
Now that was terrible story of Siyokoy The Dangerous Mermaids and Mermen of Philippine Mythology. They need to stay alert. Stay safe.

there is another water based ceature in philippine mythology called berberoka. they are water figures who drowned their victim by swalloing the water in rivers and when the victim thought it is a shallow river, they will release the water like a canon from their mouth.

another siyokoy like creature in Philippine mythology are the kataw, unlike siyokoy, they are more human like fish people with feet instead of tails except they have gills in their neck.
