What's the most ridiculous myth about medieval history presented in a movie?

Well, it’s not like Braveheart is known for it’s historical accuracy.

So many lies from history and so many people believed that one including myself. What effects does false history or just history itself have upon collective consciousness? If what we accept as true today affects our future then how deep of an impact does the past play upon our present? Instead of investing in politics I think changing or correcting history can have greater impact.

When that movie first came out I researched that because I thought it was so ridiculous at the time & I was glad to find that it wasn't true back then. Good work letting everyone else know as well I mean if they didn't before.

Then why did they have a term for Prima nocta if it didn't exist then why did they name it

I’ve read that versions of prima nocta were done in the like of ancient Babylon, but I’ve never heard of it being some official medieval policy. At best it was some rumored, isolated incident that would’ve been unanimously despised, even back then, for the reasons given in this video and more.

Does anyone know the origin of the "prima nocta" myth? Braveheart did not make up this myth. I have heard this as received wisdom for years.

Just FYI, Kevin Costner's dreadful post-apocalyptic film _The Postman_ (no, not his _other_ dreadful post-apocalyptic film, _Waterworld_ ) features the main villian invoking prima notca.

Maybe Prima Nocta did not exist but Church Law did not stop Kings and Lords from having mistresses. Just stating a fact.

older timers kings were similar to dictators, to let a king not pick n choose who he wants i just find it hard to believe.
