Not only did Turing NOT crack the enigma by himself (there was a whole team behind it), but the poles did it first

This video is incorrect.

The Polish military’s prewar codebreaker course was so clandestine that it was even concealed from the lead professor’s secretary, who had German roots.

A handpicked group of Poland’s brightest mathematics students would spend a dozen hours each week unscrambling German ciphers. In 1932 three of them hit the jackpot: they broke the “unbreakable” Enigma code, laying the foundations for similar British feats during the Second World War.

The Germans introduced a series of improvements to Enigma over the years, and these hampered decryption efforts, they did not prevent Poland from cracking the machine prior to the war, enabling the Allies to exploit Enigma-enciphered messages as a major source of intelligence

In August 1939, following the tripartite meeting of the French, British and Polish cryptanalysts held near Warsaw on 25 and 26 July, two Enigma replicas were passed to Poland's allies, one being sent to Paris and one to London. Until then, German military Enigma traffic had defeated the British and French, and they had faced the disturbing prospect that German communications would remain "black" to them for the duration of the coming war.

The work by the Polish cryptologist paved the way for later efforts at Bletchley Park. It would not have been possible without them and historians estimate the Poles saved Turing at least 3 years of work ( that’s millions of lives )

Even Dermot Turing, the great mathematician’s nephew, has written a book to right the wrong, telling the gripping story of a band of Polish mathematicians who figured out much about how German Enigma encoding machines operated, years before Alan Turing did.

The victors writes history. Unfortunately for the Poles that seems true with their contributions to cracking the enigma code, shooting down more planes than anyone else in the Battle of Britain, capturing Monte Cassino, giving over 50% of of all allied intel during ww2 and having the largest underground army in ww2. They were sold off at the end of WW2 and videos like this minimise the contribution they made - Marian Rejewski cracked the enigma and polish intelligence handed over the info to the British. If the British didn’t have that info, What Turing could do would be impossible - but yet again not even a mention for the under appreciated Poles who gave so much and suffered so much. 1 in 4 Poles were murdered in the war the aftermath effects still ripple to this day, .

For everyone mentioning Poles. Poles cracked the original enigma code, but Nazi changed it to even more complex. Turing has used lots of work of Poles (especially Rejewski who was a great mathematician) and he cracked the updated code.

Enigma was cracked in 1932 by 3 polish matematitians; Rejewski, Zeygalski and Rozycki. French and British goverment was provided by Polish Secret Service with Eingma cracking logic in Aguust 1939. Alan Turing didn't had to crack anything since he was provided with ready to read, 7 years of experience knowledge shared by British aliaes. His contribution was in developing Enigma cracking technics further, to the next level what finally allowed to create Colosus and read Lorenz machine code ( Nazi high command message coding device).

Marian Rejewski and his friends: We are a joke to you?

5:10 he didn't get a full pardon until 2013 by the queen, because the government said something along the lines of "He broke the law based on how the law was back then"

So my teacher showed this. She didn’t notice 3:59 but every student did

Thank god they gave him that pardon….. when it really mattered………………. For fucks sake

The first British codebreaker to work out the Enigma wheel settings was Dilly Knox who came to the same conclusion as the poles as to how to work out the rotor settings for the three rotor Enigma.

He cracked it by getting the instructions given to him by Poland.

Lots of word, lot of crack, lot of war, not enough Allan

He wasn’t the first to do it. He wasn’t the first to make a machine to do it. He had a team working with him. People like to leave this out to make an lgbt hero seem greater. Dudes a genius. Doesn’t need anything more

Marian Rejewski created mathematical theory how to break Enigma and Alan Turing was the genius able to understand it so he built the machine.

*how POLES cracked first enigma, and then Turing had any possibility to do it again with new enigma :v

By this video, I'll not be able to make a bombe, but a simple code breaker 😂

Do YOU know how did Turing cracked the enigma or not??
