SHOW NOTES
Have the ultimate Atheist Experience today with Johnny P. Angel and John (Godlessengineer)! They wrestle with an argument from popularity right before diving into another theist argument from ignorance with all the chemical gaps being filled with no other but god himself.

Bernard, a theist in NYY, presents two options for the writing of the Old Testament: god or human. What is your criteria for determining this is actually the word of god? How did you rule out these scriptures are not just from people telling each other stories that describe how they thought the world exists? Why do you accept that this book is accurate? How do you explain all the different ways god is referred to such as Yahweh and Jehovah that indicate different writers of the first five books? Why is it supposed to be persuasive if a book references history? Large amounts of people believing in something has no bearing on how true it is.

Mike, a theist in SC believes that because of the complexity of DNA, that it had to be designed, and proceeds to lay out his argument using chromosomes as a start. How do proteins come together? What is your definition of information as it pertains to DNA? Why are we replacing chemistry with magic? Why does any of this require a divine intelligence? When was the last time you looked up how many possible life supporting planets there are? What is the nature of the supernatural existence responsible for this design? If god is all powerful, why do genetic disorders exist? God has some explaining to do for this shoddy craftsman work. How is it fair that a kid dies of leukemia and why can’t god intervene to prevent this? Is it because he doesn't care or he doesn't exist? We think you are better than your god.

Rachel, a skeptical agnostic in AZ, was told by her friend that she can only accept advice from other Christians. Why do Bible thumping folk think they cornered the market on correct action? It can be helpful to ask the person how they reconcile the genocides mentioned in the Bible such as Numbers 31, with moral actions.

Thank you for tuning in this week! Prompt for the week is: What should you NOT say to a friend that is trying to deconvert?

We request pronouns as part of the call screening process on our shows, and we display the pronouns our callers provide. If you see a caller with no pronouns indicated, this is because they chose not to provide us with any, and we respect that decision.

My favorite theist argument is "Number big therefore god."

I can't.

You guys hit the nail on the head with the end of Mike’s call. His whole argument is that DNA is so complex, it has to be a god. But then you point out the flaws in DNA, and he has to add the concept of “sin” to explain

Johnny P. Angel is absolutely amazing. When speaking to the caller Mike, I think I would have absolutely lost my shit but that man being as amazing as he is kept it together. I absolutely love the hosts and the crew. Keep doing what you're doing because everyone is absolutely amazing. Thank you so much for what you do.

What should you not say to a friend when they convert?
"Thats ok, I'll reason for you."

Mike:"I used to be indifferent to a god idea, but then I started looking into and learning about DNA and now I believe". Mike then goes on to demonstrate that Mike has not really looked into DNA much at all; repeatedly asks if the hosts can answer questions. Would be interesting if Mike called into a show with Forrest.

What not to say when a friend converts: Am I supposed to shun you now, or is it your turn to shun me?

Mike, those chemicals are doing chemical reactions. It doesn't represent anything, we apply the alphabet to it to allow us to better explain it, it isn't actually there as letters nor is it a real language.

My fav explanation for christianity, is mary was dating joseph but not sleeping with him. she was also fooling around with someone else who knocked her up. When joe asked her to explain why she was preggo when he was only allowed to hold her hand she came up with the story of some god knocking her up. joe wasn't the smartest person so he accepted this and proudly told his mates, also none too bright. By that time mary thought it wise to just play along and from there it got out of hand with the results we all know and dread

What to say to a new convert to christianity - "You were never a true unbeliever!"

Bernard’s conception seems to be that literally there were a bunch of Hebrews sitting around and someone came up to them with a brand new book about them and said, “Hey! I wrote this book about us! Remember that stuff that happened to us all? I wrote it all down! Isn’t that great?!” 🤪🤡

A chemical engineer that doesn't know that chemical reactions are not random. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Bernard's 'dichotomy' is that either a person or God wrote the Bible. As God has not been shown to be a possibility, there's no reason for it to be an option: it's equivalent to 'either a person or a unicorn wrote this book'.

I wrote a first person account of my life from conception to my demise and several years either side. Every word of it is true because noone has ever questioned it's truth.
By Bernardian logic.

What should you not say to a friend when they convert? “Here, have some Kool-Aid. It’s Jesus flavored”.

Mike has called into different shows with different names with a topic he hasn’t got the first clue about. For instance, sound conveys information that can be interpreted by the human brain and such information is not like “little letters on a page”. 😂
