A large number of people suddenly start vomiting at a summer festival, resulting in 4 dead. Investigations soon reveal that the curry rice served at that festival had been poisoned, and a suspect is arrested within a few months.
This suspect was later sentenced to death, but a critical piece of evidence had been misrepresented.
This incident remains one of Japan’s most notorious cases of intentional food poisoning, as well as being considered to have a high possibility of false accusation.

Have you actually looked into the court proceedings? There are plenty of articles from 1998 (in Japanese) that covered how the police built a solid case against her, and it leaves no doubt as to her guilt. In fact, she is linked to at least 1 other death and 40 cases of serious injury by poisoning. The people who suffered the poisoning all had a few things in common: Hayashi (she was actually an insurance saleswoman) fraudulently took out an insurance policy on them without their knowledge, and she was the sole beneficiary and she had been the only person paying the insurance premium. Also, the victims all suffered poisoning of unknown cause after eating meals prepared by Hayashi. The police found out that several months before the curry poisoning incident she took out life insurance on 6 of her neighbors as well - she actually claimed insurance payout for some of the victims of the curry poisoning and the police found this suspicious and this is where they started the investigation. Her husband also suffered arsenic poisoning TWICE, the second of which occurred on the day he was discharged from the hospital for the 1st. poisoning. Guess who served his first meal after his first discharge? -> Hayashi. The authorities didn't pursue charges for the poisonings that dated back to 1995, but they sought the death penalty for the curry incident.

The amount of circumstantial evidence in this case is overwhelming. It's pretty obvious to anyone that the poison originated from her. I guess it goes down to whether you think someone should be convicted just on circumstantial evidence or not. It probably doesn't justify the death penalty though.

Yes, I agree, the evidence seems weak, until you ACTUALLY research her case !

She’s guilty as hell. It’s no coincidence. The arsenic and her presence and involvement in the whole thing cannot be ignored. The death penalty is perhaps too harsh, and a long prison sentence would be punishment enough.

There are two problems: a complete lack of a proper motive and the lacking evidence, which is circumstancial at best

I would like to see the video about Japanese prosecution and high chance of then getting found guilty.

Why did she need arsenic in the first place? Changing chemical composition of anything containing arsenic (to change solubility in water) while containing impurities from manufacturer seems quite plausible.

Well done fair video. Spraying the media was a creative, funny way of saying F U. But, I think the saying if it walks like a duck applys here. If she wasn't anywhere near the food they should have looked further.

Hayashi is not guilty, Japan sentenced her to death as a scapegoat for sure.

She had no motive to poison people like that at the festival. And she does not look like a psychopath either. One of the neighbors that did not like her may have been connected to one of the insurance fraud cases and this was the perfect opportunity to set her up. I have been a victim of getting framed and set up by a group of clicks. They all operate the same way. Lucky for me, my IQ was a lot higher than theirs and I exposed them.

Whether she is culprit or not, if she have mental problem, then death sentence is not necessary
