What Height should I install the hood over the cooktop/ range?

Always check the appliance specs as it will tell you exactly what height to put your hood. Typically, you will install the hood at 30" - 36" from the open flame. This equals 66" - 72" from the floor. If you go to high or too low the blower will not work to the best capacity.

if you have large windows covering the entire front of the cooking range, do you even need to turn on the range hood if the windows are open? is the range hood even effective if the hypothetical windows are open as it would seem the hood will just suck the air from the windows instead of the fumes from the range.
