Stuck waiting on an ECU for my engine. With summer upon us I need to move the mini snow cat out of the garage into storage.

I'm planning to build a mini snowcat using a Craftsman riding lawnmower with a 18-20 hp engine and 6 speed transaxle. Super easy to do, just have to make tracks like you did, and have a separate brake on the front of each track and the drive for each track would be on the rear connected to the rear lawnmower wheel. The front wheel steering would need to be pinned/locked, and I will just use two motorcyle brake levers for brake actuated steering, one right and one left. The Lawnmower transaxle has a built in differential, so to steer all you have to do it brake one track side and the diff will transfer all motion power to the other side. Easy and effective, and no messing with hydraulics.

I've rarely had a problem with a Kohler engine. In fact I make my living with them. That being said, you could of built a big block Honda clone engine from harbor freight to be stronger, more reliable and have all the same features for half the price of the Kohler.
