The more people there are in the audience, the more I am at ease. I freak out a little when the crowd is sparse.

anyone else more nervous in front of people you know than a huge crowd of strangers?

Live is easier than doing studio takes because doing studio takes forever and turn me into a perfectionist who won't accept any of his own takes. Live is great because I can just get through it, reflect on how well I did, and learn from it to do better next time. Ironically I also don't have the same nerves that infuriate me when I try to do studio stuff

Thank you so much, I’m a teen doing an internship as a sound person for a local bar, thank you for helping me brush up on my overall knowledge of the equipment around me before I start!

I am one of those lucky people that don’t get nervous. Headlining in front of 500 people and it just seems normal to me. That said, I’m the drummer so the focus isn’t on me too much.

YES, Looking out at a gig and seeing ton's of friends is like playing "Fire and Rain" in front of James Taylor. You are not alone.

... Ideal, but only of you are loaded in cash. I’ve been playing live for 12 years. In reality, you need to learn to be a good live performer before having awesome equipment. This is the real scenario... You come in to a bar, and you brought you own stuff, but then the owner tells you, noooo! Use my equipment. Then you look at it a go, “oh gosh why!?”, but you agree, because they’re paying for your performance. Then you start sound checking and it sounds awful, you have no wifi signal, no bass frequency and a very distorted sound, “What do you do!?”. You tune your stuff, put a smile on your face, make sure you know your songs, make sure you have everything organized, and stat playing!! That’s what you do. Having awesome equipment wont lower your stage fright, playing... playing as much as you can will. Playin pubs, bars, birthday gigs, even in front of family(they are the worst). The point is, good equipment wont make you a good performer, practice and exposure will.

We're always in rooms small enough that overheads aren't needed, but I set them up anyway and only run them into our ears. I find that they really open up the mix in our ears and keep it from feeling claustrophobic. Plus it kinda helps if someone walks up to you to talk to you with room noise.

We use the same mixer at our church! We love it so much.

I am a retired Road Dog of 40+ years and the bottom line is if YOU are not prepared EVERY night no amount of equipment will get it. Over these decades I have had the power go out 4 times, and had to sit in the middle of a barroom full of patrons and entertain them for the final 2 hours, no toys, no pa, just acoustic instruments and a snare you are not ready to do something like this comfortable, then YOU need more practice, not

Thank you man for sharing this videos! Can you record something about live mixing, when you come in some bar and sound check, how to setup PA and other tricks and tips?

Came in thinking I needed one or two more pieces of gear, not too pricy either...left realizing it will cost another couple grand for the speakers I need. Lovely

Hey man,
I own a Fender Mustang GT40. I had bought it because it seemed like a nice option to discover my sound without spending tremendous amounts of money for pedals. However, I’ve recently started to perform live as well and I could really use and advice on live performance equipments on a budget.
Thanks!

what the best way to book gigs? I have done a lot of performances in my life and i still haven't decided the best way to book. I hate pay to play and presale ticket scams. I used to get booked a lot when my rap duo still existed and that was due to our popularity. is an agent useful? a manager? who can you trust?
