Flame extenders are also useful. The simplest & cheapest are cotton wool coated in petroleum jelly & off the self fire starters. Gives you something to cook with if it goes pear shaped.

Add drinks to your food pack. 3 in 1 coffee's, tea, hot chocolate. Sugar. If it's cold, hot sweet drinks go along way towards staving off hypothermia.

Great video. I would suggest adding a mirror and a whistle for signaling. Perhaps a better emergency blanket such as one from Survive Outdoors Longer.

Thumbs up for Bic lighter, for a one day I must have a knife and a compass, and a bottle with water, what I don't have is a small medical kit, but after seeing this I'll be sure to organize one the next time I hike, great vid.

Since you are not going to talk about your knife I am going to do it for you :). Tahoma Field knife if best knife that I ever had (including some much pricier), especially for longer hikes. Even a skinny guy like me can chop down smaller tree with it, it feels natural in hand and it has durability of a tank.

Yikes. I'm a bit embarrassed to say that my hiking gear is a 17 ounce Crystal Geyser water bottle in my back pocket, a Sawyer Mini filter, a Scripto piezo lighter, a small Spyderco Dragonfly knife, a bent California bay laurel hiking stick, a plastic bag, a wide brimmed hat with my Smokey Bear Junior Ranger badge on the front, and a PLB. Oh, and my phone of course, with the GAIA GPS app that works anywhere, cell service or not. I carry my food on my gut, where there is plenty for several days. ;-)
