I love Paul's praise of Stilgar - "You think I'm stupid enough to deprive myself of the best of us"

"I dont care what you believe! I believe!" This is such a powerful phrase and my favorite from Stilgar in this whole move.

No joke. I truly believe javier deserves an oscar for this role. He was so immersed in his character and so important for the storyl

Javier Bardem deserves a huge amount of credit for the way he portrayed Stilgar becoming so fanatical to the point of being totally unrecognisable. It's fantastic acting. Really quite unsettling.

I know it's played for comic relief in some parts of the movie in a Monty Python kind of way, and yes, it is funny at times. But Javier Bardem's portrayal of Stilgar and his fanatical faith is so fantastic. I sometimes forgot I was watching a movie in some scenes with Stilgar, which is an insane thing that almost never happens to me anymore.

And that look in the south when Paul gave his speech, the wonder in Stilgar's eyes, that was palpable. I could actually see it on Javier Bardem's face. I could have seen other actors in certain roles in both movies, but Javier Bardem was BORN to play Stilgar.

1:38, oh man, the happiness on Stilgar´s eyes when Paul said exactly what he needed to say. Bardem absolutely killed it as stilgar

My favourite character, I love his faith and his brutal one liners:

“Shai-Hulud decides if you become fremen today, or if you die”

Also love his delivery on “Lisan al-Gaib” when Paul takes out Feyd-Rautha

And every time he says “as written”

Faith in something more, more than just ourselves, our suffering, is a power that cannot unity like nothing else. When the pain would otherwise drive willpower from your body, faith demands you continue. Stilgar lost a friend when Paul awoke, but he gained his Prophet, and for him, that was a worthy sacrifice for his people, for his faith.

Love how faith is depicted here and how it's very close to reality. Faith acting like a double edged sword - one that can cut through any difficulty but also misplaced faith can cut the self and harm others. Such a powerful concept

The overflown chills i got when Stilgar says "Mahdi, what do you foresee for us?" with such emotion finally knowing his faith has been proven. Stilgar/Javier Bardem is definitely the best character/actor in the movie after Paul/Timothee. Such a range from both of them. Casting done perfectly!

In that instant, Paul saw how Stilgar had been transformed from the Fremen
naib to a creature of the Lisan al-Gaib, a receptacle for awe and obedience. It
was a lessening of the man, and Paul felt the ghost-wind of the jihad in it.

"I have seen a friend become a worshiper, " he thought.

Bardem was a pleasure to watch in these 2 films.
He combined the qualities of a noble, comedic & tragic figure in an effortless manner.
Very well done indeed.

"Do you think I am stupid enough to deprive myself of the best of us". This goes so well with what Leto tell Thufir in the first movie when he tried to resign. People allow themselves to be slaves to traditions and rules made by men that came before and that so often leads them to weakening themselves. People do not like to look beyond the next step to take. Honor and tradition help put you on a path but you will become lost if you only use those as your guides.

Stilgar's fanaticism made him unrecognisable to the man we saw in Part One

What's funny is that when Paul says that he is the Lisan al-Gaib Javier Bardem played pure happiness with so much talent that it reminded me that I was watching a movie. I thought "I never saw an actor play happiness so well". I don't think it was supposed to take me out of the movie for a second but it did 😂😂😂😂

Poor Stilgar went from spitting in the halls of Duke Leto to "LISAN AL GAIB!". The true drug of these people was hope, not spice.

I watched it last weekend. This weekend, this video has been on repeat non stop. Thank you for this great edit. I fear for Stilgar in Dune Messiah - but I felt his faith in this movie. I felt it, saw it in his eyes. And at the same time, in his hope and belief, I felt dread and horror. Amazing film.
