It's Mike's first mock trial at the firm but he soon learns that this will be a test of his character as well as his skills.

Season 1, Episode 7 "Play the Man": It's mock trial time at Pearson Hardman and Mike (Patrick J. Adams) faces off against Louis's protégé. But the tension between Mike and Rachel (Meghan Markle) threatens to torpedo his case. Harvey's (Gabriel Macht) history with opposing counsel creates complications during a sweetheart merger between two global hotel chains.

Suits delves into the fast-paced, high-stakes world of a top Manhattan corporate law firm where hotshot associate Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht, “Love & Other Drugs”) makes a risky move by hiring Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams, “Old School”) a brilliant but unmotivated college dropout, as his associate. As he becomes enmeshed in this unfamiliar world, Mike relies heavily on the firm’s best paralegal Rachel (Meghan Markle, “Horrible Bosses”) and Harvey's no-nonsense assistant Donna (Sarah Rafferty, “Brothers & Sisters”) to help him serve justice. With a photographic memory and the street smarts of a hustler, Mike proves to be a legal prodigy despite the absence of bonafide legal credentials.

This episode and trial set up a lot of future storylines and arcs for the show:
1. Mike inexperience as a lawyer but also his desire to protect the downtrodden.
2. Mike and Rachel growing romance
3. Donna skills in acting
4. The Mike/louis rivalry
5. Jessica ruthlessness but also respect for talent and thinking on your feet.
6. Mike subtly realizing that maybe corporate law isn’t his true path.

And that’s just a few

Even Jessica cracking a smile for just one second really says how she respected Mike's strategy

This is the one show I love watching despite it telling me every episode that Harold is the only character I can relate to.

Jessica and Harvey were right. Mike should have proceeded and ended up with Jenny.

I have to admit, you got me. How can one not rewatch this series when you post great clips like this? You’re holding us all emotionally hostage 😅

Tbh i never understood why rachel was that angry. Ik she wanted to be a lawyer, but she just impersonated a person, it does not mean that the same can be said about rachel as a person

you know if you offered Mike 100 chances to re-do his examination of Rachel on the stand, he'd let her off every single time. that decision seems to have worked out well for him.

3:56 would you like to approach the bench and find out how serious I am?

One of my favorite scenes in Suits. When Rachel told Mike “I can cut it” knowing he was referring to her not getting into law school. He hurt her feelings so bad he couldn’t continue.

So many underline things playing out. You can see prior to Mike's arrival it was very "tough love" "cutthroat" environment. Mike being there made everyone human again.

You see that last look on Harvey's face, he knows Mike is right. For me a psychology student, this is a prime case showing that we can't truly separate ourselves of our true emotions. Our Person must influence our decisions. Always be true to yourself no matter the odds!

mike ross cross examination on Rachel is literally Harvey with his deliveries and playing the women not the case

The interesting thing about this show is that it makes us, the audience, sometimes want Mike to be more ruthless. I remember watching this scene hoping that maybe he would break Rachel, just to show that he was a worthy addition to the firm. But, you also immediately understand when Mike makes the decision not to that we only are rooting for his success because he's not some heartless attorney ready to hurt anyone to get his win.

Mike is our Cole, realised it isn't worth it when they have so much admiration for the other side

Jenny was the best girl. Though I understand why they forced Michael and Rachel together as its much easier writing at least until she had to retire to become a princess 😂

I have to say, I think the end of the mock trial was written badly. It was not about "breaking her" further, she already was ("I can't cut it") which breaks her narrative wide open. Not a lot of pressuring required, but rather using those same words again. He won, or at least would have soon. Don't know what's so tough about asking uncomfortable questions, they don't have to be personal (as to Rachel not the person she is immitating)

I liked Jenny better too, but the problem is that she cheated on Trevor with Mike, so that sets a bad precedent for her. Who's to say she won't cheat on Mike with another guy that comes along?

And once again, we have Mike pontificating to Harvey about being a better person. Mike throwing the case because Rachel gave him puppy dog eyes was a professional blunder, not a demonstration of moral superiority, so he should get off his high horse.
