I like the way you teach the whole song in detail. Not a partial lesson, a full lesson and an accurate one! Fun to watch too. Always a nice presentation. I'm amazed how these Metallica songs are in Std. tuning. They always sound like they are tuned down to me at first, but they are not. James is the metal riff master!

For the B position variation, I keep my ring finger on the 7th fret B when I start the riff because I can simultaneously hold the D5 on the A & D strings with my index and pinky. After that, I barre my index on it because the F5 comes in.

I'm pretty sure James played all downstrokes on the album for the verse riff. I use only downstrokes on it.

I've been struggling to play the verse riff for months because when it comes to alternate picking, if i end it on an upstroke and the next note is a downstroke on a higher string i can't hit the string without the pick hitting the string i'm already on. For this song since the verse is alternating between D and A string, doing an upstroke on the A string messes up my downstroke on the D string (also the picking pattern in general is hard for me lol). For other riffs like the Trapped Under Ice main riff and the machine gun riff from One, i can't do 6 chugs on the low E string (which ends on an upstroke) and then do a downstroke on the A string for the 7th note without hitting the low E
