What the law of attraction and many gurus on the internet fail to mention is this: we can not kill the old self, we can not get rid of the old self, it is only alive within you and the reason why people don't see lasting results, is because they suppress the old self.  When you perform an identity shift and become a different person, you have to use the old self experiences to mold you into your new self. It's like those concentric circles,   where the smaller self gets swallowed whole by the larger self as we keep growing and growing. 
We should stop trying to ditch the old self, rather encapsulate it, learn from it and allow it to mold us into the better version of yourself. 
Mark Manson quote, " the desire for a positive experience itself is a negative experience.  The acceptance of a negative experience is itself a positive experience ".

In a nutshell: When you accept and surrender to the old self and the negative experiences, you are actually in a better space, you feel positive and that's when true lasting Manifestation occurs ....
