The surgeon named in this lawsuit is not a board-certified plastic surgeon though he markets himself as doing plastic surgery

It sounds like the doctor was telling you the surgery could not be performed until you lost a certain amount of weight, which is why they wanted to place you on a nutrition plan. That is not uncommon.
