There's a way to actually have an infinite source of lava. In the world creation menu there's a section called world rules, and near the end of that list there is the option "lava becomes a source" and basically it's like water.
For example the 4 blocks or the three block line sources.

There’s a problem with this:

Depending on how many players there are in the server, there’s a different amount of ticks, lots of players result in less ticks and less players result in more ticks.

A tick will determine how fast or slow a cauldron will fill with that lava, more ticks means it’ll fill faster.
