Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 Review | The Gaming Monitor To Beat

The moment I laid eyes on the Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 earlier this year, I knew it was destined to become a candidate for the title of best gaming monitor. It marks a new milestone in gaming display — 4K at 240Hz, something that up to this point has never been done. It’s more than just a high refresh rate monitor, too. HDR performance is off the charts, especially for a VA panel, and the gaming experience is unmatched; assuming you have a rig to take advantage of everything Neo G8 has to offer. It’s the luxury sports car of gaming monitors, but just like those vehicles, the Neo G8 doesn’t make sense for everyone.

I can definitely see why 240hz is just slightly overkill however, great overview of this monitor 100% checking out the G7 as well!

I swapped out two monitors for this beast, no regrets. The quality is just phenomenal.

Makes perfect sense if you can afford it. Even when you don't get 240hz on games, you will get it everywhere else. Using your PC on a day to day basis benefits from the 240hz panel. The only downsides I see to this monitor is that it does not come with DisplayPort 2.0, and that it is not OLED. I am not entirely sure why it can't be driven at 240hz on their HDMI 2.1 ports because those have a lot more bandwidth than DisplayPort 1.4 and I thought they could also use DSC. But every other complaint I see is mostly price related.

I have this monitor with a 7700x x 4090 build and it’s pretty awesome to play COD, Lost Ark, Overwatch 2, Destiny 2, Forza 5 etc. all at 180+ FPS in 4K HDR. I got mine on sale for $1299 too

It’s only good until Samsung releases their QD OLED monitors. This is the future. You can’t improve LCD much more. Only make compromises.

Im not sure hiw i feel about the curve. Is it really needed on a 32"? These samsung monitors tick all my bixes but not sure about the curve.

I have this monitor now for a month or so maybe slightly longer, it's paired with a 6900xt which is undervolted and oced to reach 6950XT speeds and matches the 3090TI or beats it depending on the title, I have Resizable BAR enabled with a 5800x3d and 3733MHz CL14 custom tuned memory in dual rank configuration. All in all a very fast PC. While it's true that newer titles on maximum settings will not run 240Hz, people forget that you don't need to run on absolutely maxed out settings at 4K, you can easily run high settings or even a mix of medium / high settings and it still looks great. Coupled with technologies like FSR and DLSS you can even get more "free" performance without too much sacrifice. I personally enjoy playing lots of indie titles and even older titles where I can easily reach 240 FPS locked. It's an awesome feeling when running these kind of framerates at 4K. 32 Inch brings that much more immersion compared to 27 Inch and the increase in resolution means less jagged edges and farther viewable distance. And the refresh rate means smoother picture and less motion blur when moving the camera around. This all comes with a price tag, but it's worth it in my opinion.

Good timing sold one to a shopper yesterday and didn't know too much! So be cool to learn if I should get one over the G7 Neo.

I just bought the G8 today after trying out the odyssey G7 and seeing how it compared to my now old Acer Predator XB3. The Odyssey G7 is a fantastic monitor that only lacks the deeper blacks of the Acer and not by much.

It seems that the G8 has a coating that reduces reflections better than the G7. And it is precisely because of this fact that increases the comfort of work and play that I chose the G8 over the G7. And of course, because of VRR flicker, it is worth setting the refresh limit to 120Hz permanently. The spare power will not be wasted - it will go to lower delays after activating, for example, the VRR anti-flicker filter. I guess that the difference in price is largely due to the power of the processor and the matrix coating. What do you think?

Great review. Did you notice any screen flickering with G-Sync? I have an older Odyssey which has 3 presets (off, adaptive sync 1, and version 2)- if I use version 2, the screen flickers with G-sync enabled. I bought another Samsung model about 2 years ago that only had one version of Adaptive sync, and it was the version that flickered with G-sync.

Totally makes sense if you play competitive games like Overwatch. I got the G8 and I can't be happier. Great HDR, great responsiveness.

Just got this for $899 at micro center!

0:50 to point out, since the 4090 is using an old display port standard, you won't be able to go past 4k at 120hz using 24 bit color.

I want this for gaming yes, but can it handle work? Like word document etc..

I’m going with this, because my brother bought a sweet LG OLED in July 2024 and by November he had burn in in the middle of his screen it looked like shadow in a red screen
