science fiction writers do not predict these things, they inspire them.

in 40 - 50 year well have this to do real shit! like help with logistics and transportation. but it could be used to take down enemy aircrafts or... UFOs!!!!

Don't you think rather than scifi writers "predicting" the future the just came up with an imaginary idea that someone else decided to try and make a reality? Rather than the writers being some kind of soothsayer they are just creators of inspiration. Yeah makes a bitter sense.

Gackt and Hyde (Hyde of L'Arc~en~Ciel)...but then I'd need a time machine so I could get them when they're younger. Well...no. They're more worldly now in their early 40's (for Hyde) and nearing 40 (for Gackt).

Wait, gonna need to go back...Hyde's married with a child. Gonna need to wipe them out of the picture and I have a feeling Japan would frown upon me "removing them from the equation"...which would entail blindfolding them and depositing them in a remote rice field :)

She sounds like my sister deciding which Avenger she'd like to lock in her closet. Anyhoo, coolness! I love this stuff! I am waiting for the day we can successfully create a warp field around an object for FTL speeds (I will be satisfied with a functioning holodeck in the meantime).

"Predicted" if a funny word choice. If nobody ever thought it up, how would it ever be made? Scientists don't just bumble around in a lab and randomly create/discover new un-thought-of gadgets all the time.

I'd use tractor beams to transport materials to the moon for a moon base.

Love Lee's face at the end. To me it says, "Why take them in order when I can have them all at once?"

Of course any thing you could want, I would have them on my hands so that I would have to get up and grab my beer, just pull it in!!!! Boom, especially the remote. Boom

Isn't this the start to traveling the speed of light?? I'm pretty sure in order to travel the speed of light you actually have to pull space towards you.

Imagine if the beam was invisible or at least to the human eye and we had reactors on our palms... it would be like the force except more practical

I'd get two tractor beams and give one to another person. Then we would shoot the same object and have a tug a war

Cool stuff. I was afraid you were talking about the star wars "force" glove with a magnet on the palm. ;)

any girl that looks that pretty while wearing (and chose to wear no less) a Spider-Man shirt definitely deserved a tractor-beam pull!

How much coffee do you think the sourcefed crew consumes in cups/minute? The correct answer will get the most likes.

This COULD have been a fascinating story, IF you guys didn't have SUCH AN UNBELIEVABLY SHITTY SIGNAL TO NOISE RATIO.

Everything. No need to reach your hand out for something when you essentially have telekinesis.

For one thing, it's not a laser. Lightsaber is an incredible stupid name for them because they've actually got nothing to do with light other than they happen to emit it. They're actually particles being rapidly cycled in a loop. From what I understand, there's nothing physics wise saying it's not possible technology and from the sounds of this, it sounds like very similar tech, just would need to be applied differently.

Matt Scheindlinger, oh how ignorant you must be. "Scientists coming up with ideas, " and "Scientists creating technology from other peoples' ideas, " is purely a semantic thought. There's literally no difference between the two, other than the former is self thought-up (or thought up in a group), while the latter is taking someone's idea and expanding on it.

So yes, they don't "technically" predict future tech, but if a scientist creates it, and it came from the writer's idea...you see my point?
