"After weeks of long shifts and little rest, I found myself *running* *on* *empty.* I knew I had to *pull* *myself* *together* if I wanted to tackle the challenges ahead. There was *a* *bone* *to* *pick* *with* *my* *colleague* over the project mishap, but I decided to let it slide for now. With the looming deadline, I felt like I was walking *on* *thin* *ice, * but I remained determined to push through despite the *all* *doom* *and* *gloom* atmosphere in the office."

OMG, I can't believe this channel even exists, it's just something completely different, some flipping next level of YouTube English. I thought it would be impossible for someone to join "British English YouTube mafia" (English with Lucy, Papa Teach Me, Eat Sleep Dream English etc.), but Smashing English actually MADE it! I absolutely love your videos, I love the content and Laura's performing skills!

Thank you Laura for these lovely idioms. Hands down, they can spice up the language we speak. I want to ask you about the idiom which I once came across in a textbook- " be quick/ slow on the uptake". I'm just wondering whether natives really use it, or it dropped out of common usage. Appreciate it.❤

Thank you for your video. I learned a bit of English :). The expression number ten I didn't know it. In spanish we say: "robo a mano armada (armed robbery)". I think it's very similar.

I like to think about the expressions I learn to see which expressions in my native language capture those nuances.

Greetings from spain.
