The May Garden

It's time for a late spring garden update, how did the garden fare in May?

May is probably my favourite month in the garden, so much happens and there is just so much change. Hence, it is a brilliant time to take a walk around and update you all on the greenhouse, the flower beds and the veg beds. Big wins this month are the foxgloves, hydrangea and petunia. So let's go for a wander.

Channels I recommend to get you throw lockdown boredom

From April 2023 your May 2021 garden tour was awesome and sorely needed. So nice to see how a garden evolves over the years. ☺

The soil in your raised bed looks so so good!! Major jealousy when you pulled out that foxglove. Those cocktail herbs sound awesome!! I'd love to see you sampling some cocktails with them in a future video. "Maybe I've made that up, and they're not called Stars and Stripes" hahaha.
Shame about your courgettes but looks like you've nursed them back to health! Greenhouse is looking fab.
Thank you so much for the shoutout! So lovely! Fully support Niall's plans for meadow creation!!!!

Thanks for the heads-up about the chilli site. I'll be heading over there for some help; my bidey-in would not be happy if i lost any of her precious chillis! Enjoyed seeing how things are doing in your garden, especially the foxgloves which i also love. May is a great month in the garden-i'm loving my garden just now and i'm in it every day. One of the few positives of lockdown means it probably will never look this good again, haha.

I've been binging your garden videos, and I love your enthusiasm for all things plant related. I've been figuring out my own garden here in the USA and been taking inspiration from stuff you have done!

re: aphids - we got a climbing rose as a memorial to David's uncle a few years ago and this spring it has been completely swamped with them. I mixed some neem oil, fairy liquid, and water together and put it in a spray bottle and have given them a dousing, it is an organic pesticide but doesn't hurt pollinators like bees/butterflies/hoverflies. Did the trick in two days.

Order some lady 🐞 to help with the aphids. I had to get some to help in my garden. Y'all have to so many flowers they will love your yard.

Those Foxgloves are GLORIOUS!!!!😍 I love getting ready to see around your garden. I feel your pain on the grass, I think grass is the hardest thing I've ever tried to grow. Thanks for being brave enough to share everything

Another splendiferous update Eli! Gardens looking great! As for the foxgloves, you will find them popping up everywhere! 🙈 it’s one thing that every year we have more and more of! Including a chunk of tall blousy pink ones the far side of our shed! They’ve set up home there! Then dotted around the rest of the garden, some are close to 6/7ft by the time they’ve really got going! 🙈 bees adore them though so they’ve stayed put! Have noticed one up the top part of garden that’s looking much paler, maybe even a white or a yellow? Will have to see! And really must put some hay round the strawberries! 🙈 do you have issues with earwigs at all? That’s one of many pests we are inundated with in our garden 😭 recently used nematodes to try and tackle the dreaded vine weevils 😖 but 🤞🏼 they have done the job! Plants looking a bit healthier so I’m hoping they’ve killed off the grubs as they are designed to do! 🤞🏼 how are you feeling about lockdown now? Making the most of it? Or ready to get back to a more normal routined life yet? 💖

I have just got started with a new aluminium greenhouse and would benefit from advice on what seeds I can plant to grow from now through autumn and winter.

Your garden looks so lovely, I am so jealous! I am starting a garden from scratch at the moment as I moved house and I planted up a new flower bed at the end of April-ish and NOTHING is growing...2/3 of the plants I put in have already died. I don't know if it's because it's so hot or I'm not watering enough or over-watering? Should I bring the plants inside while it's so hot until they are big enough to cope? So frustrating!
