The best Mexican Foods you can find...

My favorite Mexican restaurants here in SA are the Jalisco-style restaurants. You usually have the option of filling your taco/enchilada/whatever with your choice of beef, chicken or picadillo. I LOVE enchiladas with picadillo, and usually get them once a week at the restaurant by my house. And, of course, i eat my fair share of breakfast tacos, even though I work evenings and am never awake in the morning. You can get them or order them anytime here. Chorizo and egg tacos are awesome if you can find a place with great chorizo. It's SO flavorful. You should have grease dripping out through your fingers. I love Tex-Mex!!

You missed out at Rafas. The lemon pepper pork chop plate is the absolute best I’ve ever had. If you are a pork chop fan, get these next time and your eyes will roll behind the back of your head. You won’t experience that no flavor issue with their pork chops.

As a local thank y’all guys for showing love to my city. A place I do recommend is Rolando‘s taco House in the south side. They are knowing to have the biggest tacos 🌮. literally as big from your wrist to your elbow try there asada taco all you need is one taco. But they are only open like 4 hrs a day.

Keep in mind all the people on here telling you to go to Ray’s, Blanco Café, los barrios, Rolando’s, those are all shitty restaurants, lol you want some good ass tacos, that are not fancy or pricey, go to Taqueria Mexico, off of Somerset, it’s really delicious, and doesn’t have all the gimmicks and you won’t get food poisoned either and last, but not least, stay far far away from Oscar‘s taco house

If y'all ever come to SA again, I recommend trying places outside of Tex Mex too. Sure we love our Tex-Mex but SA has more to it than that. This place I am about to suggest got mentioned on both the Travel Channel and the Food Network. It's called Big Lou's Pizza (its located in Southeast side of town). I recommend if you go there, plan ahead because they make their food from scratch so it takes awhile to bake, especially if you order a huge pizza. It is family owned too. What got this place recognized is HOW big their biggest pizza is, 42'' lol, you can't even take that to go. But the food is amazing, just give yourself a couple hours lol.

If you want Chinese, SA has the oldest Chinese restaurant in Texas called Hung Fong, it's located north of Downtown close to the Museum reach of the Riverwalk and Brackenridge Park. It opened up before WWII and is still family owned. My family has been coming her for generations (my Nana used to take my mom and her siblings here).

For German, I highly recommend Schillo's, which is Downtown close to the Riverwalk. They serve breakfast there beside lunch and dinner. They are known for their Root beer floats (it became popular during the Prohibition era lol).

New mom and pop places are still popping up, and the most recent one I visited was one that opened up in 2020. It's a French cafe/patisserie place in downtown near Travis Park called La Boulangerie and it was opened by a French man from Normandy. I only tried the macrons and they were so good. I need to try the lunch there. It is connected to a fancy French restaurant too, but I haven't tried it yet due to it being a bit pricy for me.

Anyway, these are my recommendations.
