A new exhibition offers a glimpse into the captivating world of Alberta Sturges Montagu, the 9th Countess of Sandwich, and an American Heiress from the renowned era known as The Gilded Age.

Curated by Mapperton’s very own American Viscountess, Julie Montagu, the "American Heiress" collection is comprised of more than 10,000 previously unseen letters exchanged between Alberta (Sturges) Montagu and her family, as well as the peerage at large.

Dating from 1888 to 1951, these letters constitute the largest unpublished private collection of correspondence from the period. They offer a remarkable glimpse into the life of a "dollar bride" during the Gilded Age, shedding light on both triumphs and struggles.

The exhibition takes innovation to the next level by introducing Alberta AI, a ground-breaking creation that brings her story to life like never before.

“With the aid of cutting-edge AI technology, we've resurrected Alberta's voice, allowing her to answer visitors’ burning questions about her remarkable journey,” says Julie Montagu, Viscountess Hinchingbrooke.

We had those weird plug sockets here in parts if the USA also. I have seen them here in the Deep South plus in Oklahoma and Texas as a kid growing up. I also remember the old fuse boxes that were like the UK used. I think we all started off similar, but as time went by, here in the USA they came up with the more modern types we use today here.
We also had something like conkers. We used hazelnuts which may be the same as the cinkers. We also played croquet here in both the South and the Midwest. 😊

Julie says Luke is the pessimist in the marriage but I beg to differ. We are talking chalk & cheese here folks. That`s probably why the relationship works. Luke has the utmost optimism about everything and is so enthusiastic. He is great fun and still a little boy at heart.

I enjoyed the tour! I live in Asheville, NC, where the biggest tourist attraction is George Vanderbilt’s Biltmore estate. In the late 1800s he had 42 bathrooms installed. Apparently, that was quite something back then. Still is!

I am always so excited to see your videos! Have You ever considered buying a torch flame for your fireplace? I watch Cecilia Blomdahl’s channel who lives near the North Pole and they constantly Have a fire going in their house and use the torch flame which is efficient and works very well.
