I hate when people think that only because they're studying to be doctors or lawyers, they're automatically smarter than someone who is a filmmaker or a painter. It's SO FRUSTRATING.

One thing people don't realize is that art is literally EVERYWHERE, from ads you see on the street to cartoons you watched as a kid up until now. So saying that "being an artist is not a job" just shows how ignorant they are.

When they think that fashion and music isn't art, DUDE, art is everywhere.

It’s so annoying how some people say how they can’t do art and how they can’t draw anything at all, and they worship your art all the time, but then they say art is not a real job.

And also when they tell you what to do, or assume your art is anime. That, and ‘draw me’ are the most common I get.

asking someone to draw for free is like asking a dentist to clean your teeth for free. You don’t walk in a dental clinic and say “HEY clean my teeth for that’s ur job right?” 🤦🏻‍♀️

I showed my Mom a painting I had done...everyone else who saw it says it was good...she says, "Don't quit your day job!" When I was in school I qualified for a partial scholarship for Art School. My Mom says, "Don't expect any help from me...

My Mom wanted some art work done for an idea she had. She asked a friend of mine to draw it for her. My friend was so pissed. She said, "You have an artist living in your house, why didn't you ask her?" (I will love my friend to my dying day for that support and confidence).

Such hurtful comments stay with you...make you scared to call yourself an artist when people ask you what you do...make you treat the thing that gives you such great joy like it is just a hobby. Makes you get a "real" job.

I didn't go to art school like I had dreamed of doing. I put away the supplies. I got jobs...But always I carried my art supplies around like a secret treasure. One thing I never hid away was that painting. NO, I framed it and hung it on my wall. Why? I didn't realize it then, but I know why now. In my heart I have ALWAYS been an ARTIST! And that painting was a reminder to my soul. NEVER GIVE UP!! NEVER SURRENDER! and when someone asks you what you do...say it with a smile, "I AM AN ARTIST!" and walk away from anyone who thinks or says otherwise because you don't have to explain jack sh** to people who wouldn't get it anyway.

So now, I have to get busy...I have ART to do, because, ya, I'M AN ARTIST!!!
