I can’t help but feel the comments about plug-in hybrids being better aren’t quite right. If you have a short commute, and can charge at home and the office then yes; they’re great. But if you don’t keep them always charged up or do a long journey and deplete the battery - you’re just lugging around extra weight and end up with a car less efficient than a normal petrol or diesel counterpart. The Civic is by far the better option for most people I think!

What a dreadful review! Describing the car as an EV (twice) is misleading. You wouldn't group it in with a Nissan LEAF to a customer. Off hand comments like, "I don't like the idea of non plug-in hybrids, cos their pointless" and "I suppose it works for city driving, but to get the max efficiency you'd need a plug-in hybrid" just showed bias and misunderstanding. The 'close your eyes' game demonstrated nothing, the findings weren't even even discussed. And the "I can't wait for the Type-R" from everyone at the end just made it sound like Top Gear! If I was seriously buying an EV or Hybrid the Type-R wouldn't even be in the discussion. This review wouldn't help a genuine car buyer.

The opinions in this video felt very uniformed. For example, HEV vs PHEV. They completely ignored the PHEV downside of lugging several hundreds of kilos of batteries around when they’re empty. Jason also kept banging on about the lack of a turbo on the 2-litre engine. It’s only there to charge the batteries! I feel they missed the point.

Plato got it wrong saying it doesn’t have enough grunt having a 2-litre NA with an tiny electric engine to back it up, that is not how works on the present Honda hybrids. 😂😂😂 It is powered by the electric engine which is rather powerful (184hp/135kW) and it gets its electricity power from the combustion engine, only at certain speeds (80-120 kph) the combustion engine is connected to the drivetrain and propels the car. That is why this is different to most other hybrids.

I've watched quite a few reviews of this new Civic. Reviews of it here in the UK, in the US, and in Australia. And they ALL cannot believe what a great car it is. Many of them loved how it drove, and appreciated the quality feel inside, not to mention how intuitive the touch screen was, and the clever driver assists it uses.

The previous gen Civic was a mess to put it bluntly - ugly as anything, clunky looking. And only appealed to certain kinds of men....you know the ones I mean. Exactly. The kind who thought the Subaru Impreza was cool, and probably still own one or know someone who does.

This Civic has a refined, mature look - everything the previous generation did NOT have. And for me that's a huge step forward. The Civic has grown about b****y time. It had played the overgrown boy racer' role for far too long. It was getting tiring tbh.

This car may not stand out on the road, but that's no bad thing. At least it's not another anonymous blob that has no real style....but which more and more people seem to prefer now. Personally I don't really get SUV's - still. But that's just me evidently.

This new Civic has a great dashboard - not too cluttered, but not frighteningly minimal either like that of Tesla cars.

It also looks fun to drive, and you can tell it's the kind of car that won't let you down. The Fifth Gear team - you may not like the new Civic, but it seems an awful lot of people do. And that's what really matters.

That guy with the grey hair and glasses ain't half annoying btw. Like a shouty, close minded car reviewer of old who would prefer to just drive ridiculously expensive sports cars ....that may be great to drive, but have a poorly laid out dashboard, and which are unreliable as hell.

I think the new Civic is a game changer. Forget Tesla. And who needs an SUV, when a hatchback is this good?

This is one of the only negative reviews about the new civic, this is really good tech.

Unbelievably crass and ignorant comments from your co-reviewers! Some of us cannot prctically use plug-in electric cars, let alone that the infrastructure and power supplies cannot support it! This is purely the best option for those who want to move on but cannot encompass plug-ins!

Just came across this channel. Never bothering with it again. The only thing I got out of this was it’s boring, not a track car, and should have a plug. Then they all give it a seven or higher. As if an electric M3 is the only car anyone should have. Not a single person buying this vehicle is looking for an aggressive sports car. Know the intended buyers. What a joke.

Picked mine up on Saturday, sport spec. It's a fantastic car if I'm honest. Does everything very well, doesn't wow you or anything like that and it is rather economical.

Wow, you guys are some of the worst reviewers ever. Very biased on the negative side and can't even back it up why.
> Synthetic leather - actually good, no need to hurt animals.
> Not a turbo engine - this solution provides class leading performance with low emissions and great fuel economy.
> Decent handling - other reviewers actually like handling. Are you comparing to BMW or Porsche that's not in this class?
> Old school because it's not phev - how can you acknowledge that not everyone has access to home charging and still punish for not being something you need. It's like "I like Porsches and this is worse, so I will give it a 7". And some real reviewers would argue that PHEVs don't make sense, because you are trying to make something more eco by adding so much more complexity and weight to an ICE car and it would make more sense to just skip this step and commit for a full EV.

What a stupid grades and reasons for them. They don't know almost anything about the new civic. It is probably the best or one of the best cars in its segment and it deserves at least 8.5/10 overall and even 9 or 10 in some segments

A very dated, lazy and prejudice review. No wonder they are no longer on tv. The new Civic is a brilliant car as attested by virtually every other review.

Fun fact for Jason. Cloth upholstery was a higher spec item than leather many years ago. He must be old enough to remember that 😂

Having owned one for 3 months, I can say that virtually nothing that was said here was correct.
It's a superb car.

Plugin hybrid has reliability issues. We have tried the c350e and 330e plug in and it was nothing but issues with the batteries and inverters

looks so much nicer than the previous gen.

Cloth seats are the best.
I think it looks sporty enough, you don't need anymore add-on kit or the car will just attract the wrong attention.

I think you have missed the point of this car. Compare it to it's rivals and it is literally streets ahead. It asks the question, what is the point of a plug in?
