Join me on this trip reviewing the steam link in 2024. Was valve ahead of their time and people slept on this gem, as usual, or did this fade away for good reason?

Thanks for stopping by. Please consider a like and sub to help me reach 500!

Hello everyone! So i realize the confusion caused and the talk about internet connection playing part in this. So to clarify; the internet speed was to show 2 things. 1) the isp isn't reliable. 2) the equipment they have in our villa isn't reliable. I have my own switches as seen in the video. What you cant see, is the modem and router that then feed into a switch that supplies signal thru every room in the villa. Everything is connected by the equipment we, as residents, can not access! I should have definitely elaborated on this and I'm considering making a second video on this topic in much greater detail as this was really just a goofy project with the family.

I know it might be counter intuitive but if you hook up your PCs ethernet cable to steam link it practically gives a seamless 1080p experience.

I was cleaning the house and found my Steamlink unopened. I bought it when the Steam Store was having a fire sale. I might try it on my tv one day.

What does your internet speed have to do with it? Surely it’s all on your internal network?

The speed test you ran is for external(internet) speeds and don't have much to do with your internal LAN speeds. Prob just worth restarting your router. Your setup is nice and great internet speed. Nice video! Subbed!

The hot sauce on the popcorn… you guys are my people.🎉 and yeah for a second I considered pulling back my steam link but it’s way underpowered, I think in only has 512 mbs of ram.

You're paying for 2gb internet, which has to be expensive af, yet you're only getting 150mb? Yeah I'd be raising hell, these internet companies are getting blatant with ripping us off. I never get the speeds I'm paying for.

I don't see the relation between you internet connection speed/stability and the Latency of your steam link. Both your pc and steam link are on the same lan so you have got pretty much a Gigabit connection between them. Unless the pc stream to a remote server first then to your steam link which would not make any sense

If your PC is on your lan then the internet connection speed makes no difference.

I'm thinking of using Steam Link as an option for recording footage from Steam Deck (since Steam Deck cannot capture FHD footage unless you're docked and/or hooked into a capture device). So as far as I understand, I could just sit there with my Steam Deck screen still on so that I could play it as intended (like a handheld) and have the footage streamed to a Steam Link connected to a capture device via HDMI (which then would go to a TV but I would probably keep the TV off)? I am just searching for an option to record games on Steam Deck but without the need to dock it to a TV (if Valve adds an option to keep the SD's screen on when docked, it will be awesome).

yeah but with Samsung TVs, I had nothing but issues with the streaming, seems like the TVs don't have enough power to handle the decode effectively. A the moment I'm working on getting moonlight working on my old xbox one x and the biggest issue is the fact that my monitor is ultrawide and that makes it impossible to see on the tv.

I would try to bypass the ethernet adapter to only one ethernet adapter near your main pc/ router, especially if they have built in firewall/packet protection.you could use a ethernet powerline adapter, that sends the internet through your electrical grid, from steam link to your pc or pc to steam link to main router .All those ethernet adapters probably filtering the signal down rellay bad.
My main pc is all the way upstairs in my house and is connected to my router were my family tv and my steam link is connected to it via ethernet power line adapter downstairs. and i dont have a problem at all, its like having another gaming pc without even buying one. Believe me making it work takes trial and error to get it right. I tried wireless connection at first but was laggy but this worked for me.

Why would internet have anything to do with your local streaming? I’ve never had any issue with mine, and it takes up no space. I love it. Huh.

Those Genesis games didn't even jiggle when the bookshelf was bumped

That doesn't make sense, how can your internet speed be a factor for traffic within your internal network?

I've been using the new Walmart Onn. 4K Pro as my Steam Link device via ethernet and it has been snappy for playing games in my living room from my Steam library on my bedroom PC. I don't notice input lag or frame rate stutters. The Onn. 4K Pro is only $50 and it's fantastic for streaming movies and TV too. Way better than the current Chromecast. A great deal.

The only catch is that it doesn't work great for games that require a mouse like point and click adventures. Controller based games work great.

For anyone who gets the Onn. 4K Pro, I recommend using the Projectivy launcher to get rid of ads. I use the free version of Projectivy. The paid version of Projectivy is not necessary.

I think I will put my Link inside my mostly empty case as decoration.
