At the end of 1971 and early 1972 I worked in a nearly deserted 7-11 grocery store in the edge of town working the 3-11P.M. shift. It was dead dark outside and bright inside. With nearly no customers all shift I listened to the radio and anxiously await the birth of our first child. This song played over and over and I loved it. Then January 28, 1972 our Son was born and I will never hear this song without remembering those long nights waiting for my first born to arrive and the joy when I got the call to rush to the hospital. 49 years later it still has the same affect on me.

The day the music died…February 3d, 1959 in a cold, lonely cornfield near Clear Lake, Iowa. Saddest day ever for music. Thanks for this very beautiful tribute. Just wonderful.

You may consider singing Simon and Garfunkel, as they had many songs that were made to be sung as accapella. I believe your voice would be a great marriage to their songs.

Perfect. The song is about death of three musicians in 1959 and you managed to keep the voice clean and sad. Not like Madona whoh turned the song into a happy disco. The best cover I have seen so far.

Took about 5 seconds of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" to become a complete admirer...

The best part of your videos? That you really look like you're having fun doing this. Not to mention your talent, of course.

Beginning on December 19, 1971, this became my favorite song. I heard it on the radio driving back & forth to visit my then girlfriend. I remember it well since it was my first day back home from Vietnam.

Love how expressive you are with your face/eyes while you perform.

I've always considered "American Pie" to be my favorite song of all time.
You did a really nice cover.
I think if you covered McLean's iconic "Vincent" (Starry, Starry Night), it would turn out very well.
Heartburn? No thank you!
Reburn? Yes please! ☺️😍

Damn I fell in love with this song, I was the shy kid In class but I met my girlfriend on math competition and life was great, I started listening to buddy holly and ritchie valens alnd a lot of other 50s RnR, only song that stuck out was this one, I started listening to it becouse the lyrics and it played on the radio thru my first kiss.
We dont see each other no more.
50's Rock and Roll feals more dead than ever.
They dont spin this record anymore.
I said goodbye to my american pie along time ago.
But these 8 minutes like the first time hearing this song.

Thank you from my heart and soul.

I cannot listen to this song as you sing it, without being incredibly moved. I cry each time. It just so touches my 65 yr old passions so sweetly. It reminds me that we're in a spiritual battle. Thank you.

That last line gave me chills. No other cover managed that. This is perfection

"The church bells all were broken..."
* ding dong ding *
Wait a minute...

I didn't think I'd like a mellowed out version of this song. I thought it would take away the frustration present throughout it, the overtones of lament, the undertones of anger... Instead what you've produced is something with a sweet sentimentality that was never present in the original version. It's gentler, more passive aggressive, and sadder than what McLean arranged, and I think it's brilliant. Bravo, my friend. Bravo 👏❤

Absolutely riveting.

This pop song is one of the few that deserves to be called poetry. Layers and layers of meaning, depths to be plumbed...

And you have given us layers and layers, too. I've never heard an interpretation of 'American Pie' that so ably emphasizes the poetic nature of the lyrics. You gave us soft and fragile vocals; what we usually get in covers is more assertive, more forceful, even happy, but all of that runs counter to the poem itself, which is bewildered, full of loss and defeat. In short, yours is the truest interpretation I've ever heard.

This is a real masterpiece. So much analysis here to be had. Really love the arrangement, seems more beautiful than the rather sad original, just a flicker of upbeat without overdoing it.

Also the breathing skills required to pull off singing the verses in 1 take, something only a trained vocalist can pull off. They should be using this clip to showcase the technique in schools.

Really liked this one, solid all round production.

If Anne Reburn had the Infinity Gauntlet, *everyone* in the universe would be dust by now. Excellent snapping there, Anne!
