What I love most is that it’s *eight* minutes long and *never* manages to make me tired of it.

The senior and aging group grew up listening to this classic. Thanks for the classic hit sharing.

I'm 67. I was 18 when this classic hit the airwaves. Young people today think they know what music is. American Pie is STILL A CLASSIC!
Well now I'm 68. I recall many years ago about an article of a proposed TV series that never took root. Too bad. The series was about a jukebox that was a time machine. The concept was that when one played a song, the jukebox took you to that time and location when one first heard it. Such as the time in the fall of 1970 coming back late at night from a high school football game in the Charleston, SC area. I was sitting in the back of a buddy's car as he drove home. The radio was on and I heard for the first time James Taylor's "Fire and Rain". I bet other people can recall similar experiences.

This song is in memory of Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens who died tragically in a plane crash. Holly was only married to this bride for six months before the crash and his wife suffered a miscarriage when she heard the news reports. A heart wrenching song when your understand the impact.

The man says more in 8 mins than most "artists" say in a lifetime. Complete immortal masterpiece

I knew this song existed and I liked it, but it never had an importance in my life until a few months ago. I was with all of my closest friends and we were on a lake, all spread out. Some of us were in the middle of the water on paddle boards, others were floating, or sitting on the dock. Nobody was really talking, we were just appreciating each other’s presence. But then all of a sudden this song comes on. We all look to each other and start screaming it together. We didn’t even have to say anything we all knew the lyrics. We sat there for 8 minutes singing/ screaming with each other. Even though we were far away. At the time it was just all fun but looking back, it was such an important moment in my life. Thank you for this song ❤️

Mateo and Rufus's story changed me, even though they're fictional, they made me realize that life isn't about waiting for the right chances and moments. Life is supposed to be enjoyed, not planned, not waited. Live your day, like it's the last.

I love how so many people can like this song for different reasons. Fans of the song years ago, people who saw a movie, people who read a book. It's a song for all generations.

I loved music as a young kid, I bought this single when i was 8 years old, I had a real crappy turntable and loved records. My Dad was a big Creedence Clearwater Revival fan, i still have his records 50 years later. Music can take you to another place in the universe, wether your playing it or listening to is Magical

"American Pie begins to play and the crowd cheers, like it's our own song, like they know who we are. Rufus squeezes my hand and lets go."

This music will never be the same again for me. I thought this was some kind of joyful-story-driven music, but it turned out to be the opposite. Rest in paradise, to the three great musicians.

you know what hurts most reading the book? thinking they would die together in their sleep but no, someone left the safe island and someone was left behind experiencing the pain, crossing the street while listening and watching his loved one singing till his very last breath

This is the great American ballad. McLean hits one out of the park with his song. It's sort of a Forest Gump of music, crossing all kinds of paths of cultural significance. He lets us know, in American vernacular (foreign people have always had a hard time figuring out what the song really means), what went down when popular music was, suddenly, changed for all time. The old world of music hits the new world. The friction of conflict and transition. 'The marching band refused to yield' could apply to more than music, but it represents change. 'Jack be nimble' calls out to our people to respond to the change, as Americans we can't let this happen. But we did. This is a great piece of music.
