There is an awesome side-effect of growing food on the ISS that I think people are overlooking. Plants are what our planet naturally uses as "Air Recyclers". By growing food on the ISS, not only are they providing food with less negative impacts on the planet (fuel consumption to ship food to space). But they're also taking a step toward minimizing the artificial air recyclers required on the ISS.

This whole concept is blowing my mind. Sustainable food sources in space would be pretty awesome, and it would definitely be a way of overcoming one of our major hurdles for space habitation.

Yes it is! Also known as the Evenstar, this represents Arwen's immortality. When she gives it to Aragorn it represents her leaving behind her immortality and giving her love to him.

Never mind that water is very heavy, meaning getting it up there in any real quantity is expensive, and that it would be contaminated in the process with the stuff that the plant needs/excretes/etc.

That ending sequence reminded me of a time I did that to a friend once. I picked her up, carried her out of the room and proceeded to kick a saw. All my friends in the other room heard was me yelling after taking this poor girl out of the room. She was okay, I shattered my toenail.

I read somewhere that hemp plants would be a good investment for future space farmers. Not only could you grow the hemp for food but also the hemp fibers could be used to make clothing. (Note I'm saying hemp, not weed.)

I'm a mountain biker and skier, which is why I would pick mars. It has dirt and snow, and with such low gravity, a wipeout would hurt a whole lot less

"...drifting off into the ethos"? I'm not sure if that was accidental missuse of a word of pure poetic brilliance.

There's a lot of theories / propositions out there about floating colonies in the clouds of our solar systems space giants (even Venus, with her dense atmosphere)
.
Because the gases in their atmospheres are so dense, we could literally build flying cities in the sky, requiring minimal propulsion to stay aloft (a few little propellers could hold a sky scraper up; or a city block)

Certain crops may not need to be genetically modified, nor need soil to grow. They can be coaxed to grow with by just adjusting the intensity of different colors of light. In Japan there is a university that experimented on hydroponically grown lettuce that grow or get bigger depending on what color of light they absorb. They don't grow on soil but water and light. If this can be applied into outer-space, that would be interesting. It is good to stay organic and traditional, however.

They forgot the benefit of recycling the air, this could dramatically reduce the energy consumption for air filtration systems that give the astronauts breathable air.

That's your opinion. And, statistically speaking, the vast majority of the viewers like the way they look. You're an exception.
