A video I spent a few hours researching, and about two days editing. I'm a huge fan of Team Fortress 2 and I hope you all enjoy.

Extra fact for Engineer: in one of the contracts dialogues. Pauline says "Engi, this job requires someone who can read. You're my only hope" which confirms that he indeed can read

I think it's also worth noting that both of the demoman's parents are blind, so after he was reunited with them it's possible they might have taught him to read brail instead of printed text.

Something to add on Medic, he does 100% know how to read as seen in Hell when he actually messes with the devil by reading loopholes in his own contract.

Quick note about scout, he couldn’t read the word “machine” while trying to read “Sub Machine Guns”. This was in the naked and the dead, when Saxton Hale drops crates of weapons down to the mercs. He reads it as “Sub Mackeen Guns”

if I'm not mistaken, one of the voice lines that can play during Scout's beanbag taunt is literally "Haha I can't read"

I believe that Sniper can only read Australian and not english. It's the kind of joke the tf2 comics would make.

Something to note about heavy when it comes to "more than you think": Russian Literature is famous for being heavily philosophical. Fyodor Dostoevsky, for example. Its more likely Heavy uses his PhD to grapple with the morality and philosophy of literally being in the business of killing for money than using it to finance his weaponry.

a proof of heavy's PHD in literature is the "i have yet to meet one who can outsmart a bullet" phrase from meet the heavy because it is a reference to a piece of russian literature "the bullet is the dumbest thing in the battlefield" so the phrase is literally heavy calling other people dumb

Counterpoint to Demoman: Maybe he wasn't asking what the weapon was called, maybe he was asking THE WEAPON what it called ITSELF. The Eyelander is shown to speak to him in the comics as well

Valve should resort the 9 classes into 3 categories, "Mostly Illiterate", "Moderately Literate", and "Highly Literate." I feel like this would be greatly beneficial for the competitive side of the game.

personally I think the demo's "what's your name you dirty girl" is just him admiring the sword (eyelander) in the box, kind of like a wine connoisseur calling a valuable bottle of wine "hello gorgeous"

for spy, there is literally a taunt where he sits and reads a book.

the scout's comic reading taunt, he could've just been looking at the pictures, but spy was definitely reading a (pretty long) book
