Want to tell use of OBD
OBD- On Board diagnostic
It tells you if there are any faults major or minor which have locked the DTC( Diagnostic Trouble Code) .DTC are the unique code which helps you to detect direct issues which have occurred .
Also it is not mandatory to do OBD only while engine check or service tell tale. There may be different issue which you may have not recognised.

Wrote this as I work in automotive field being a software developer we know how critical things can be...

You need to scan your vehicle using a diagnostic tool. You won't find everything on the cluster. There are so many faults that will only show up on the obd tool.

OBD stands for ON BOARD DIAGNOSIS. This particular laptop scanning is required when any type of checklamp is on or blinking as per their description or during the checking any displayed DTC(Diagnostic Trouble Code) on IC(Instrument Cluster).

Honestly, just buy your own OBD2 scanner and check for error codes. If you see any, note them down. Take care to service centre, let them claim they fixed it. Now take car home and diagnose your vehicle again. If the error code has gone, then great. But if it’s still there it means you’re being ripped off. Plus, you can also check if the code was removed via company obd2 scanner.

I’ve been using an OBD2 scanner for myself and every single car I’ve owned either in India or in the US. It always tells the truth. You can also check if the trip meter was pushed back when purchasing a used vehicle.

The scanning is important coz fault code may be temporary or confirmed, if temporary we have to clear it, if confirmed engine check blinking.

agreed...but not necessarily..coz sometimes u may get an ABS light on continuously without d engine check light on..
this happens when the ABS sensor may have been damaged..the scanning confirms, out of the 4 abs sensors which one is not functioning....
