Honestly Chunk 1 is my favourite, the way the resin warped makes it look like he is forever frozen in a block of ice.

In electron microscopy, we embed small organisms in resin before imaging sometimes. To make this process as seamless as possible in as preservative a manner possible, we start by gently opening the cells in the organism with something like formaldehyde which also “fixes” the cell structures with chemical bonds. This is called cross linking.

When your organism if fully fixed (which would take a long-ass time with a pumpkin), you then slowly start replacing all of the liquid with pure ethanol by incubating the sample in solutions of ethanol with increasing concentration. So incubate it (for a couple hours in this case because it’s a big pumpkin) in 20% solution, then transfer the pumpkin to a 50% solution and incubate etc etc until you reach 100 % ethanol.

Then repeat the ethanol process but with your resin of choice mixed with the ethanol. Start with a 10% solution of resin diluted in 100% ethanol. Then increase the resin concentration in steps until you reach 100% resin. Now when you let your pumpkin cure, there should be 0 water left and 0 air pockets that could allow for bacteria to grow.

To successfully embalm a pympkin in resin without rotting get rid of the bacteria either using uv lights or boiling to prevent bacteria growth in the resin
