We're still planning on doing a NEW resin pumpkin this fall so make sure you're subbed 😘 ALSO thank you Nigel for being our science expert! youtube.com/nilered

Said it before: when things rot, the bacteria eating the organic material releases gasses, which are pushing the resin, and now the mineral oil, out of Chunk 2's prison.
The Pumpkin that flash cured might be staying pristine because the heat killed all the bacteria. High temperatures are used to sanitize medical equipment.

out of those two, Chunk 1 is still my favourite. He might not be encased in a perfect cube like Chunk 2, but he looks like he is trapped in an ice cube. I think that's pretty cool

As a father of four kids, I am jealous of your refrigerator space to be able to put a chunk of resin in it. I’m over here playing Tetris to get my subway sandwich to fit. Lol

I love that nigel is like "you could do it with salt water and a bit of germicide" and they went "well we found this chemical on amazon for cheap" and he was like "oh dip, go for it"

I love how they got Nigel on for his advice which was to use a saline solution with a germicide and then proceeded to completely ignore it

"Have you considered adding a pressure gauge and blow-off valve and/or expansion tank to your pumpkin" is not a sentence I ever thought I would use.
Yet here we are.

The Pumpkin Immortality project is truly a Sisyphean task... but man is it entertaining to watch happen.

THIS YEAR. You must take a pumpkin to a Taxidermy Specialist, and ask them to FREEZE DRY ONE. THEN do your resin Dance!!!
Yes. They will laugh when you ask them to do this, but they WILL help you. I guarantee it. Specially for a sponsor spot lol.

The MOMENT they started to drill I was like “that’s gonna smell SO bad”. When they didn’t immediately wretch I was 100% shocked, haha

"Hey son, heard you had to leave work early, you feeling alright? Whatcha watching?"
"Oh yeah I'm fine, watching this couple embalm a pumpkin"
My poor mother is baffled.

LOL. The "ehh" comment is so relatable. When you work with hazardous chemicals all the time, your thought process really goes to there's always something more dangerous than that 😂.

I genuinely love the look of Chunk (1s) resin block, it looks like he's trapped in ice! Which makes it a very fun decoration, with environmental story telling

Nigel should create a new channel called NilePurple where he offers his chemistry knowledge to people who are doing unhinged things since this interview falls in-between his seriousness on Nile red and his unhinged behavior on Nile blue

Chunk getting oiled up in a sequel released in the middle of july featuring NileRed
was unexpected but very appreciated.

My guess is Chunk 1 is fine because of the rapid cure. It sorta pasteurized the pumpkin with the rapid heat meaning there's nothing to decompose it in the resin.

Hey guys! I have some info that might help with the next pumpkin: My dad is a wood worker, specifically he likes turning bowls on a lathe or making pens. Sometimes he uses wood that is partially rotten. Rotten wood, of course, is soft and falls apart, making it unsuitable for turning. He solves this by putting the wood in a vacuum chamber full of a certain resin. Over time in the chamber, the air is sucked out and the voids left behind are replaced by resin, preserving the shape while making it stronger. Someone else uses this technique with vinegar and cucumbers to essentially make instant pickles. This might be a good solution to allow you to fill the pumpkin with some sort of preservative before encasing it.

Chunk 2 is not changing colors, it's light being reflected inside the resin which happens whenever there is something with a lower fractal index between chunk 2 and the resin (like air or gas), water and oil have a higher fractal index so the light can go through as normal and the orange becomes visible from the outside again
