“And the Empire left Mandalore’s surface uninhabitable.”
Like it wasn’t already…

The Empire remembered what The Republic went through during the Mandalorian Wars and wanted none of that energy.

Considering Mandalore's long history of warmongering, the most well-known being the Mandalorian Wars, you can somewhat see why the Empire, a dictatorship obsessed with control, would see them as a threat that had to be put down.

At least the Mythosaurus is chilling around in the deep waters underneath Mandalore.

I wouldn't be surprised if part of the reason why the Empire went ham on Mandalore was for Palpatine wanting to destroy Maul's legacy more.

To call this a harsh punishment would be an understatement.

They also wanted to rob The Rebellion of skilled warriors if Mandalore joined The Rebels and makes me wonder how Mandalorian loyalist like Gar Saxon would react if his home got destroyed by the Empire

Imperium: "You gotta Exterminatus them. Simple as."

Galactic Empire: "Good idea!"

It kind of makes me sad to see Mandalore like this

This actually reminds me of the Warsaw Uprising of 1944, it saw the complete and brutal destruction of the city.

I wonder if Rebels knew what they unleashed once they helped Mandalorians resist the Empire. They all said fight and do not give up because subjugation is worse than death for them. And where did it lead? To the death.
Although in my opinion, the Emperor would eradicate Mandalorians anyway with Death Star, Duchess, bombs, whatever he had, simply to not think about them anymore. Problem is, with Mandalorians resisting, he had an alibi to deal with them the way he wanted.

On the bright side, Mandalore didn't get a visit from the Death Star.

Mandalorians are warriors/soldiers second to none if you can't control then they're a threat or can become one so the Empire flattened them.
