This is my favorite method for adding a key pair to my droplets.
Need a virtual server? Try Digital Ocean! They have a new pricing and hardware structure that is awesome! SSH authentication using keys is much more secure that password based authentication! Use this quick guide to get up and going with key based authentication when you spin up your droplet! Then when you don't need SSH disable it via the firewall!! Do some Googling on Key Management!

I think it would have been better to make one that covers all providers by sftping the key to the VPS in the appropriate folder and manually disabling password auth. It obviously still works for DO but works for every other provider as well.

when I launch putty and type root to login i'm getting the following error => no supported authentication methods available (server sent: public key)

Am I missing some config on the DO side?

I noticed you didn't choose to passphrase protect your private key. Is that for any particular reason? Whenever I protect my private key, it doesn't seem to want to authenticate to the server and it never asks me for that passphrase.

This may not be the right area to post this, but I do have a question. What is the benefits to use digital ocean compared to a cloud key.

Maybe I'm missing something but don't you need SSH to manage the firewall or does digitalocean have some sort of firewall that can be managed through their web interface
