Well, It IS an improvement from earlier MSI plug and play systems. Joust, Gauntlet and Defender are all great games, but, well, really 2 of them are not even in there. Then there is that doorknob joystick among other things.. What things? Find out more in this unboxing, gameplay and review!

My main encounter with Defender 2 was the Atari cart called Stargate. Eventually Atari released a Defender 2 that was the same game but I think Stargate came first.

Defender II is what the NES cart is labeled as also...but if you go into any arcade, if you can find one, the machines are labeled as Stargate though...and like you I never saw it called Defender II anywhere else except on the NES cart

Those Joust physics definitely seem a bit off.

It's definitely cute. I imagine the audience for these are more casual gamers or people who don't game anymore but want to show their kids the games they grew up with, but I feel like these days, the companies are falling all over themselves to license their games, so I can't imagine it would cost more to get the arcade versions of the roms, as opposed to the NES versions.

That being said I'd kill for a Double Dragon II: The Revenge arcade stick. I have the NES cart, but I'd love a stick with DDII art. Would be really cool if they made these HDMI out.

The US release for the NES used the name Defender II (distributed by HAL Labs).

But I never played it or I possessed it. So I am not 100% sure.

Imagine a good plug and play with decent artwork and hdmi - all licensed of course and with a fair price tag - ah just dreaming.
Btw. I like spiders.

I know it as Defender II only.

It looks like Defender II is really just Stargate. It appears some console ports were named Stargate and then at some point future releases were Defender II.

One thing I learned today is that midway did release a spiritual successor to Defender and Stargate called Strikeforce. It was a 2 player game. Similar to the idea of twin sticker shooters Robotron and Smash tv. Strikeforce did not have success like Smash TV did.

MSI "go commit" start making better plug n' plays with original arcade roms and HDMI cables.

I would've preferred to have the NES version of the original Gauntlet. Far better than the sluggish port of Gauntlet 2 and a better single player experience

All the MSI plug & plays suck, they all seem to have the NES rom, which NES games are good, on the the NES, but hell they could put the actual arcade rom on these plug & plays or at least the go all out & break the law even better than scalping the NES rom & give us a MAME rom I mean damn can be that much harder to do.
