Political economist Radhika Desai discusses how capitalism is inherently imperialist, what the class struggle looks like at the international level, and how "the dominant ideas are the ideas of the ruling classes of the dominant nations".

This is a discussion of chapter 3, "The geopolitical economy of capitalism and socialism", from Radhika's book "Capitalism, Coronavirus and War: A Geopolitical Economy".

33:10 “There is absolutely no capitalist society in which the state has not played a very big role. If you look, for example, at any kind of a statistical comparison today of the proportion of the economy that is accounted for by the state in different parts of the world, you will see that actually it is in the advanced capitalist countries that the state accounts for the biggest part of the social product.”

We need more of this . By this I mean open debate without constraint or suppression. Well done to you for promoting this, and the Author Radhika Desai for her writing and conclusions

Critical for people who live within the imperialist core to understand this.

as capitalism is to imperialism, imperialism is to corporate fascism.
the mimicry that corporations adopt in their policies of production are inherently fascist in their vertical structure of competition and conformity with the political power of the centralized state.

Thanks Ben and Radhika for an enlightening session, what could make the pod even better is the sound on Radhika’s side is too much echo which makes it difficult to follow as words overlap. Thanks for a great show

Not to be a dick but... you should work a little bit on Radhika's audio. I really appreciate this content but it's a pain in the ass to listen to it.

Radhika's distant-sounding audio makes it harder to understand her when English is not your first language.

I've been learning a lot from you two nonetheless! Cheers!

Thank you for all the deep diving on such complex and expansive topics.
Please be assured that MMT is not in any kind of rivalry with socialist class analysis and education. It is a very specific focussed lens on one function common to all developed economies. State money. It does not agree or disagree with any of the political analysis of any socialist stream. It simply strips away the voodoo obfuscation of neoliberal economics to help clear the mind for an honest evaluation of the greater, more complex ideas of socialist education.
