Basic Russian 2: Verbal Aspect: Imperfective Present vs. Perfective Future

In this series of video tutorials, you will learn about the verbal aspect by comparing and contrasting different forms of the verb in context. First off, thank you Olga for making these videos. I have been studying Russian for almost 7 years, and your videos are helping me understand things that were never clear to me before.

Can I just make sure one thing is clear. If I use the perfective form of the verb to describe a future action, is there an expectation that that action will be completed in the future or am I simply describing what I plan on doing? I ask because I know you can also use "быть" along with the non-perfective to describe future actions. Or maybe I just need to watch the next video for my answer? :)

All of the examples are clear to me except for the very first one, because isn't it also meant to be a process if Lena is reading the newspaper later, albeit a future one? Like, the guy is currently reading, that is a process, I get that. But I would have used "будет читать" for Lena in this case because I would imply it to be the process of her starting to read after her coffee.



I am confused... :(

9.14 The answer is "I really want to drink / I'm thirsty. I am drinking and drinking". However could the other option "Я выпью, Я выпью" also be correct? So it would say I really want to drink so I will drink and drink? But the first option is chosen as the picture suggests she is in the process of drinking? Is that correct?
